Position Overview The Assistant Director, Stewardship will support strategic efforts to engage and steward contributors who have the deepest level of commitment to the university. By working collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, this role will help implement designed, customized experiences and initiatives to strengthen philanthropic engagement among Marquette’s most ardent supporters, further elevating their relationship(s) with the university. (S)he will also work collaboratively to ensure thoughtful management of prospects into and through the volunteer ecosystem, including pipeline and membership tracking. This position has the opportunity to work in a hybrid work arrangement with time worked both on campus as well as remotely.

Duties and Responsibilities

High-end Stewardship and Engagement Partnership:

In partnership with the Senior Director and internal staff, plan and execute personalized experiences and customized touchpoints designed to sustain current and ignite future philanthropic commitments for benefactor audience.

Partner with University Advancement and Engagement to identify, plan and execute high-end offerings and campaign programming.

Design curated programmatic and communication touches with responsibilities to include: invitation design and list development; promotion planning and implementation; program ideation and management; coordination of event logistics directly or in conjunction with campus partners; preparation of materials to staff university leaders; staff events and coordinate post-event follow-up.

Oversee events around Marquette’s priorities and affinity groups as they arise.

Integrate university and campaign messages; align university priorities through event programming.

Forecast events and budgetary needs.

Stay informed on current university initiatives, research and educational programs, and activities.

Attend university events and volunteer meetings, often during evenings and weekends.

Volunteer Ecosystem specialization and Prospect Management partnership:

In collaboration with Research, Prospect Management and Engagement, identify prospects for volunteer ecosystem opportunities, including but not limited to: President’s Advisory Council, Campaign, Marquette University Alumni Association National Board, Young Alumni Leadership Council, Marquette Family Enterprise Network and Alumni National Awards. Determine rationale to support candidacy and maintain current pipelines across the ecosystem.

In partnership with key internal stakeholders, conduct frequent review of ecosystem pipelines to support prioritization of candidate recommendations; compose biographic summaries on candidates as requested.

Develop and map pathways through the volunteer ecosystem (organize pipeline, steward those currently engaged, provide meaningful touches with former volunteer ambassadors).

Evaluate internal recruitment and tracking practices to ensure the volunteer ecosystem pipeline is enhanced and maintained; identify trends to demonstrate correlation between volunteer ecosystem engagement and increased affinity with Marquette.

Facilitate quarterly audit of volunteer ecosystem to ensure database management remains updated.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of related experience.

Ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders.

Established track record in building meaningful relationships.

Proficiency with databases, Windows, network based electronic environments, and the Internet.

Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel or other data visualization tools.

Excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated experience of interpreting data to inform business practices.

Ability to express information clearly and concisely, whether orally or in writing.

Strong project management, an ability to build collaborative relationships with colleagues and the ability to work within established deadlines.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience in an academic medical center or higher education.

Experience with Blackbaud CRM database system.
