General Summary
Oversees the department in the recruitment, admission, enrollment, retention, and customer service of international students, scholars, faculty and staff. Creates strategic plans for the department. Advises the University on immigration law to maintain compliance, and reports to relevant government agencies.
Major Duties
Oversees international enrollment, leading the development of strategic and comprehensive recruitment plans, along with other enrollment matters.
Oversees the operations and processing of the department, leading activities regarding application processing, unit operations, and identifying desired enrollment levels. Oversees scholarship budgets and management. Responsible for overall customer service in the department.
Prepares legal petitions for the University and related departments involving employment visa sponsorship and international program offers. Holds signature authority to sign petitions. Reviews curriculum for new international programs.
Serves as liaison between outside counsel and academic departments for permanent residency matters and advises departments on internal process for cases. Manages immigration sponsorship and advisement of scholars and associated work permits.
Advises the University on immigration law in consultation with relative campus departments. Provides consultation on immigration law to departments regarding immigration sponsorship for employment, research and international programs.
Researches federal law, regulations, and policies, and drafts policies upon request.
Serves as chief school official for international program management and compliance. Responsible for government certifications for international students, scholars, researchers, visiting professors and other international programs.
Reports to relevant government agencies.
May serve on leadership committees and workgroups with a focus on strategy, operations, planning and compliance for the University’s global education institute and the University.
Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Three years’ relevant experience.
Supervisory experience.
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Knowledge of U.S. immigration policies and regulations.
Demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity and awareness.
U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident to meet the federal requirements to serve as a Designated School Official (for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security) and Alternate Responsible Officer (for the U.S. Department of State).
Desired Qualifications
Five years’ relevant experience.
