The
Head Golf Professional
serves as the on-site golf leader and a visible driver of participation, programming, and revenue performance for the public golf facility. This role is responsible for managing and overseeing daily golf operations while executing and expanding organized play, instructional programs, player development, guest engagement, and conversion of new and returning golfers. The position works in close alignment with the General Manager and Vice President of Golf Operations and has responsibility for training and development of direct reports and other golf staff.
The Head Golf Professional is expected to function as both a revenue driver and culture builder, strengthening current performance while fostering an inclusive, welcoming environment that encourages repeat play and long-term growth within the local golf community.
Organized Play & Revenue Growth (Primary Focus)
Accountable for driving predictable, repeatable revenue through structured programming
Develop, manage and grow leagues (men’s, women’s, junior, senior, corporate)
Plan, manage and execute high-quality tournaments and events
Develop and manage promotional, holiday, and fundraising events
Increase participation and retention rates
Improve repeat play frequency
Track and grow revenue per round
Implement yield management and tee sheet optimization
Improve pace of play and tee sheet utilization
Golf Operations Management
Manage and oversee tee sheet management, starting operations, and pace of play
Ensure accurate collection and tracking of all fees and charges
Maintain oversight of golf cart fleet and practice facilities
Administer handicap program in accordance with governing guidelines
Ensure proper POS procedures and inventory controls
Maintain professional golf shop presentation and merchandising standards
Safeguard operational assets and revenues
Player Development and Instruction Philosophy
Develop and implement an inclusive instruction program (private and group)
Create beginner-to-league pathways to support long-term engagement
Expand women’s, junior, and family programming
Recruit and manage PGA professional instructors as applicable
Utilize PGA of America player development tools and resources
Convert instruction clients into league and event participants
Recruit, hire, train and supervise golf department staff
Manage Assistant Managers and oversee outside operations staff
Conduct evaluations and performance reviews
Develop internal bench strength and succession readiness
Maintain payroll accuracy and align labor with revenue levels
Coach staff to assume ownership of responsibilities
Business & Financial Accountability
Responsible for the financial performance of golf operations
Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly revenue trends
Assist in budget preparation and forecasting
Improve margins through programming and facility utilization
Ensure effective inventory management and purchasing controls
Collaborate with the Head of Agronomy and Assistant Superintendent on course setup and tournament preparation
Partner with sales or guest services teams to support guest conversion
Attend management meetings as requested
Provide consistent operational updates to leadership
Required Skills and Qualifications
PGA of America Member in Good Standing
Minimum of three (3) years of progressive golf operations experience, preferably in a public or high-volume facility
Proven track record of growing leagues, tournaments, and participation
Strong leadership, team-building, and staff development skills
Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and revenue targets
Exceptional guest service orientation and communication skills
Ability to design, implement, and sustain repeatable programming systems
