Job Opening The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks applicants for the position of Seasonal Groundskeeper I. The basic purpose of this work is to provide for the care and maintenance of grounds and facilities including buildings, open space areas, lawns, trees, shrubs, flower beds, walks, roadways and parking lots.
Specific Duties
Trim, prune, cut and/or plant flowers, bushes, etc., as part of groundskeeping activities.
Seed, water, weed and/or fertilize lawns, flower beds, shrubs, etc.
Spray lawns, flower beds, shrubs, etc. with fertilizers or pesticides.
Assist in designing floral beds and planning placement for grounds beautification.
Cut lawns using hand mower or power mower.
Make minor repairs of sidewalks, roadways and parking lots and clear them of snow.
Perform related duties such as emptying rubbish barrels; picking up trash; cleaning ditches, drains and catch basins on grounds or roadways; shoveling snow and raking leaves.
Based on assignment, incumbents may also prune, cut and remove tree limbs and branches.
Clean and maintain recreational facility restroom facilities.
Excavate grounds using backhoe and front and back loaders.
Vacuum, sweep, and clean the interior of recreational facilities.
Perform other related duties as required.
Preferred Qualifications
Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
Ability to understand and apply the rules, regulations, procedures, specifications and standards governing assigned unit activities.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
Ability to exercise sound judgment.
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
Qualifications
First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
Minimum Entrance Requirements: None.
Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid appropriate hoisting license, issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety, may be required.
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid pesticide applicator's certificate issued by the Pesticide Bureau, Department of Food and Agriculture, may be required.
