Job Description:

As the Medical Billing and Coding Specialist, you will perform all aspects of the billing process with insurance companies and other payers, including but not limited to eligibility and benefit verifications, referrals, prior authorizations, claim submissions, appeals, and payment processing ...ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

What You Will Do:

Check eligibility and verify benefits for all clinical services
Obtain referrals and pre-authorizations as required for treatment, and follow-up as needed
Review all consumer billing and insurance information, including medical and clinical records, for accuracy and completeness. Obtain any missing information.
Prepare, review, and submit claims both electronically and via paper claims
Follow-up on unpaid claims within the standard billing cycle timeframe
Check each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with the contract

Call insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessary
Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurances
Research and appeal denied claims
Answer all consumer or insurance inquiries pertaining to assigned accounts
Update software with rate changes
Facilitate client finance orientation
Prepare, review, and submit weekly/monthly reports to leadership
Assist clients with all insurance navigation, including Medicaid enrollment and follow-up
Assist with coverage of the Payment Office
Other tasks as assigned by leadership

Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate or bachelor's degree strongly preferred.

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience: Knowledge of medical billing, accounting, and business processes, healthcare and/or non-profit background strongly preferred. A minimum of one to three years of experience in a medical office setting

Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment.

Skills/Abilities:

Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
Knowledge of insurance guidelines including HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer requirements and systems.
If in recovery, must demonstrate at least two years of sobriety with evidence of emotional and social stability

Job Description:

As the Medical Billing and Coding Specialist, you will perform all aspects of the billing process with insurance companies and other payers, including but not limited to eligibility and benefit verifications, referrals, prior authorizations, claim submissions, appeals, and payment processing ...ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

What You Will Do:

Check eligibility and verify benefits for all clinical services

Obtain referrals and pre-authorizations as required for treatment, and follow-up as needed

Review all consumer billing and insurance information, including medical and clinical records, for accuracy and completeness. Obtain any missing information.

Prepare, review, and submit claims both electronically and via paper claims

Follow-up on unpaid claims within the standard billing cycle timeframe

Check each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with the contract

Call insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessary

Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurances

Research and appeal denied claims

Answer all consumer or insurance inquiries pertaining to assigned accounts

Update software with rate changes

Facilitate client finance orientation

Prepare, review, and submit weekly/monthly reports to leadership

Assist clients with all insurance navigation, including Medicaid enrollment and follow-up

Assist with coverage of the Payment Office

Other tasks as assigned by leadership

Minimum Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate or bachelor's degree strongly preferred.

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience: Knowledge of medical billing, accounting, and business processes, healthcare and/or non-profit background strongly preferred. A minimum of one to three years of experience in a medical office setting

Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment.

Skills/Abilities:

Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.

Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.

Knowledge of insurance guidelines including HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer requirements and systems.

If in recovery, must demonstrate at least two years of sobriety with evidence of emotional and social stability

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Accurate and review of appropriate billing of all charges based on CPT/ICD-10-CM and payer guidelines, especially Partnership HealthPlan.

Use of EHR to verify correct coding and medical necessity.

With assistance from training staff, provide training to medical front office staff of departmental and billing procedures.

Assist billing staff with follow up of denied claims.

Knowledge of coding and clinic operations as it pertains to Federally Qualified Health Centers.

High Skill level in Microsoft Office Suite Programs.

Utilize NextGen EPM/EMR to verify information and confirm complete documentation.

Requests adjustments to accounts based on organizational guidelines.

Daily feedback reports to Center Manager's and Billing Manager.

Complete assigned tasks and assist with coding and error resolution.

Assist with telephone inquiries and provides information requested.

Assist with patient complaints preparing information for Senior Management review.

Participates in educational activities.

Maintains strictest confidentiality.

Communicates routinely with satellites & other departments on billing issues and changes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Ability to work without direct supervision.

Knowledge of medical terminology and clinic systems.

High skill level for Microsoft office programs with expertise in excel.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Coding Specialist II

who will be responsible for all aspects of coding, quality assurance, and compliance with federal payer documentation guidelines. Works closely with department management and coordinates with Clinical Practice Association and Office of Billing Quality Assurance to include review of documentation. Coordinates multi-faceted clinical/research billing to ensure a smoothly functioning billing operation and good patient relations. Applies an in-depth knowledge of the EPIC Professional billing systems. Activities, which consist of obtaining and verifying financial and insurance information prior to actual time of service. Requires extensive knowledge of insurance contracts, medical terminology and coding. Assumes administrative tasks, special projects, report of billing and collections, procurements, accounts payable and research patients' financially obligations, and other related activities. This position exercises independent judgment and decision making on a regular basis. This position will also be responsible for supporting office services for processing accounts payable transactions and performing basic monthly reconciliation of accounts. This position will monitor and complete purchases, process routine financial transactions, and enter basic financial data into university systems.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Serve as departmental expert on coding questions.

Exercises independent judgment and decision making on a regular basis with respect to code selection.

Holds bills and seeks corrective action for services not meeting documentation requirements in accordance with CPA policies.

Research and answer billing and documentation questions or problems submitted by faculty, department, billing staff, and others to ensure compliance with specific payer regulations and CPA policies and procedures.

Supports department compliance efforts through participation in department training and education programs relative to specific product lines in accordance with established policies.
