Job Title: Data Entry and Content Review Specialist

Pay ranges:
$13.00 to $15.00 usd/ hour
Role Overview: Data Entry & Content Review Specialist
Review biomedical journal articles and validate structured metadata within specialized data management systems
Analyze English-language articles to identify and record research funding acknowledgments (government & private grants)
Identify and link related citations (errata, retractions, dataset DOIs such as GenBank, Dryad, Figshare)
Apply correct status indicators and filter non-citable items in compliance with data standards
Meet productivity targets of ~35 citations per hour while maintaining high accuracy
Daily Tasks / Scope of Work (Deliverables)
Metadata Validation:
Review and validate structured metadata from journal articles
Funding & Grant Identification:
Extract and document funding sources and grant identifiers
Technical Linking:
Connect related citations and datasets to ensure data integrity
Classification:
Assign correct citation statuses and filter out non-citable content
Output Targets:
Maintain productivity of ~35 citations/hour with strong accuracy
Ideal Candidate Profile
Experience in data annotation, data entry, content moderation, or similar roles
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
Preferred location: MD, PA, VA, WV (due to proximity to Bethesda, MD)
Minimum education: High school diploma (Bachelor’s preferred)
Must be US-based and authorized to work in the U.S.
Key Requirements
Must pass a
Tier 1 federal background check
(no felony convictions or pending cases)
Must hold a
REAL ID
(required for federal facility access)
Willingness to complete a
2+ week badging process
Must travel
once to Bethesda, Maryland
to obtain official badge (up to $200 reimbursed)
Must purchase a
PIV card reader
after badging (reimbursed)
Must provide own
laptop and high-speed internet
Technical & Professional Requirements
Ability to work with:
Scientific journal articles
XML-formatted citations
Publisher platforms and databases
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Experience in metadata validation or structured data review preferred
Pre-Engagement / Security Requirements (Mandatory)
Tier 1 Background Check:
Required for low-risk federal data access
Fingerprinting:
Mandatory in-person process (~30 days)
In-Person Credentialing:
Travel to Bethesda, MD for badge collection (required for system access)

100% remote (except one-time travel to Bethesda)
