Business Development Representative

Approved Sheet Metal is seeking a motivated and technically curious Business Development Representative (BDR) to help drive new customer acquisition and expand our pipeline of custom sheet metal fabrication opportunities. This role is focused on identifying and engaging engineers, product developers, and sourcing professionals who need prototypes and short-run production sheet metal parts. The BDR will proactively reach out to target companies, build relationships, and generate qualified RFQs for our estimating team. The ideal candidate is a hunter who enjoys finding new business, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is comfortable having technical conversations about manufacturing and product development. This role is critical to expanding Approved Sheet Metal’s presence in industries such as robotics, aerospace, medical devices, industrial equipment, and emerging technologies.

Key Responsibilities Prospecting & Lead Generation

Identify and research companies that design or manufacture products requiring custom sheet metal components.

Conduct proactive outreach through phone, email, and LinkedIn to engineers, product developers, and sourcing professionals.

Generate new RFQs and quote opportunities for the estimating team.

Customer Engagement

Initiate discovery conversations to understand customer projects, timelines, and technical requirements.

Identify prospects who value speed, quality, and communication over the lowest price.

Educate prospects on Approved Sheet Metal’s capabilities in prototyping and short-run production.

Pipeline Development

Schedule discovery meetings with qualified prospects.

Guide prospects through the early sales process including NDA execution and RFQ submission.

Maintain accurate prospecting activity and pipeline tracking in the CRM.

Market Development

Focus outreach efforts on target industries such as robotics, medical devices, aerospace, and industrial automation.

Research and connect with engineers and procurement professionals at high-growth companies in New England and key national markets.

Collaboration with Estimating & Sales

Work closely with the estimating team to ensure RFQs are complete and ready for quoting.

Communicate prospect expectations regarding lead times, quantities, and complexity.

Help ensure a smooth handoff from initial outreach to quoting and order conversion.

Qualifications

1–3 years of experience in sales, business development, or customer-facing roles in a B2B environment

Entry-level candidates with strong sales aptitude or manufacturing interest are encouraged to apply.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills

Ability to learn and discuss manufacturing processes and technical concepts

Self-motivated with a proactive, hunter mindset

Comfortable with high daily outreach activity

Experience using CRM platforms (Salesforce or similar) is a plus

Interest in manufacturing, engineering, or industrial products is highly desirable

Compensation

Base Salary: Starting at

$50,000

Performance-based compensation tied to revenue and gross profit from BDR-sourced accounts

Quarterly commission payouts based on booked and paid customer orders

Additional annual performance incentives tied to revenue milestones
