Position Overview The Marketing and Public Relations Manager for Cooperative Extension at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University will develop and lead the implementation of a strategic, comprehensive marketing and communication plan that aligns with the University, College and organization’s vision and mission. The Marketing and Public Relations Manager will report directly to the Associate Dean and Extension Administrator. The primary goals of all communications strategies are to increase the visibility of Cooperative Extension at A & T while also promoting our educational programs across all 100 counties and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indian (EBCI) Nation. The Manager will serve as the primary point of contact for Cooperative Extension’s communications efforts and collaborate with members of the University and College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (CAES) public relations and communications teams. The Manager will also work collaboratively with the Director of Marketing and Communications at NC State Extension on matters relating to our joint partnership‑North Carolina Cooperative Extension as a way to build the partnership brand.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a Public Relations, Journalism, Technical Writing, English, or related communications discipline. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Five years of experience in public relations, marketing and communications. Strong knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, AP Style, and punctuation.

Demonstrated experience applying the concepts and principles of social media, communications and marketing.

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, interact, and collaborate with colleagues orally and in writing, and work independently on a regular basis.

Exceptional organizational, analytical, critical thinking and time management skills, and strong attention to detail. Strong oral and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills.

Direct work experience using social media channels, especially Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Demonstrated creative experience building social media audiences.

Experience using web tools and software for analyzing and improving social and new media.

Ability to multi‑task, prioritize and balance varying volumes of work assignments and adapt to the changing needs of the office.

Proficient in MS Office Suite software.

Valid driver’s license and personal transportation.

Ability to travel and work after hours/weekends as needed.

Must be able to lift equipment used on work sites.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Technical Writing, English, or related communications discipline.

Working knowledge and understanding of Cooperative Extension in general, and more specifically NC Cooperative Extension.

Knowledge and understanding of working and communicating with limited resource communities to include developing communications for the general public and those that may have low literacy levels.
