
Marketing and Public Relations Manager for Cooperative Extension

Primary Purpose Of Position
The Marketing and Public Relations Manager for Cooperative Extension at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University will develop and lead the implementation of a strategic, comprehensive marketing and communication plan that aligns with the University, College, and organization’s vision and mission. The Manager reports directly to the Associate Dean and Extension Administrator and serves as the primary point of contact for Cooperative Extension’s communications efforts. The role collaborates with the university’s public relations and communications teams and with the Director of Marketing and Communications at NC State Extension to strengthen the partnership brand of North Carolina Cooperative Extension.
Primary Function Of Organizational Unit N.C. A&T is a public, land‑grant, doctoral research institution and one of the largest historically Black universities in the United States. With more than 14,000 students, the university offers a wide array of undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs, and it is nationally recognized for STEM education and community engagement. Cooperative Extension provides research‑based educational information, programming, and technical assistance across four programmatic areas—Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, Community and Rural Development, and 4‑H Youth Development—serving a diverse range of communities throughout North Carolina and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.

FTE: 40 hours/week, 12 months

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Technical Writing, English, or a related communications discipline from an accredited institution.
Five years of experience in public relations, marketing, and communications, with strong knowledge of writing fundamentals, AP Style, and punctuation.
Demonstrated experience applying social media, communications, and marketing principles.
Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently.
Exceptional organizational, analytical, critical‑thinking, and time‑management skills with strong attention to detail.
Direct experience using Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for organizational communication.
Creative experience building social media audiences.
Experience using web analytics tools to improve social and new media performance.
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and adapt to changing workload demands.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
Valid driver’s license and personal transportation.
Willingness to travel and work after hours or on weekends as needed.
Physical ability to lift equipment used on work sites.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Master’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Technical Writing, English, or a related communications discipline.
Working knowledge of Cooperative Extension, particularly NC Cooperative Extension.
Understanding of communications for limited‑resource communities, including low‑literacy audiences.
Remote or Hybrid Work Arrangement The position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement consistent with university and state policies. Employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina within a two‑hour commute of their assigned duty station.
