Design Assistant
to join our team and grow with us.
Job Summary The Design Assistant will provide crucial support to our senior engineers and project managers in all aspects of residential structural design and construction administration. This position involves a mix of office-based drafting/calculation and field-based site assessments.
Key Responsibilities
Drafting & Design:
Prepare detailed construction drawings, structural plans, and details for residential projects using AutoCAD.
Engineering Calculations:
Assist in performing structural analysis and load calculations (wood frame, concrete, masonry, foundation) under the supervision of a licensed engineer.
Site Inspections:
Conduct field visits to residential job sites to verify existing conditions, assess structural elements, and ensure compliance with design documents.
Project Documentation:
Prepare technical reports, submittals, and specifications.
Coordination:
Coordinate with contractors, architects, and homeowners to resolve field challenges and answer RFIs (Requests for Information).
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field from an accredited program. Two Year Technical Degree and/or equivalent education/experience will be considered for those with both AutoCAD and residential construction experience.
Experience:
0–3 years of experience in residential or structural engineering.
Software Skills:
Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Programs (Outlook, Excel, Word) is required.
Knowledge:
Basic understanding of residential building codes (IRC/IBC/FBC) and construction methods.
Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for client and contractor interaction.
Must be able to work independently as well as with a team.
