
Senior Sql Database Administrator

Role: Senior SQL Database Administrator
Location: Pleasanton, CA
L3 DBAs own database architecture, complex performance tuning, and critical incident resolution across multi‑platform environments, and define standards and automation for the DBA function.
Key Responsibilities
Design and review database architectures, schemas, and standards for MS SQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MySQL, including high availability (Always On / RAC / replication / clustering).
Lead capacity planning, performance baselining, and advanced tuning (indexes, query rewrites, partitioning, parameter optimization, storage/layout strategies).
Act as final escalation for P1/P0 incidents (outages, severe performance degradation, data corruption), driving root cause analysis and permanent fixes.
Define and improve backup, recovery, DR, and HA strategies, including RPO/RTO targets and regular failover and restore testing.
Implement and enforce database security policies: encryption, auditing, role design, least privilege models, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Drive automation and Infrastructure as Code for database provisioning, patching, deployments, and configuration drift control (using scripts and CI/CD pipelines).
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to L1/L2 DBAs and development teams, including code reviews for SQL, guidelines, and best practices.
Evaluate and introduce new database features, versions, tools, and cloud options, and contribute to technology roadmaps.
Typical Requirements
5–8+ years’ experience as a DBA with significant exposure to at least two enterprise platforms (e.g., SQL Server + Oracle) and working knowledge of PostgreSQL/MySQL.
Proven track record in designing and operating mission critical, high‑availability database environments.
Deep expertise in performance tuning, troubleshooting, and SQL optimization.
Experience with automation frameworks and scripting for large‑scale administration.
