
Purchasing Agent

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Purchasing Agent to support procurement operations within a fast-paced industrial manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for managing the end-to-end purchasing of both direct materials (raw materials and production components) and indirect spend (MRO, office supplies, and services). The ideal candidate will ensure timely, cost-effective procurement while optimizing inventory levels, maintaining supplier performance, and supporting uninterrupted production.
Key Responsibilities
Manage purchasing activities across both direct materials (raw materials, production components) and indirect categories (MRO, repair parts, office supplies, and services)
Analyze inventory levels, usage trends, and demand forecasts to determine reorder points and purchasing needs
Align procurement decisions with production schedules, maintenance needs, and operational priorities
Ensure all purchases meet budgetary guidelines and cost targets
Prepare, issue, and manage accurate Purchase Orders (POs) in accordance with company procedures
Maintain and update order data within ERP/shop systems
Track open orders and ensure timely fulfillment, resolving discrepancies as needed
Source, evaluate, and select suppliers for both direct and indirect spend categories
Solicit and compare quotes, bids, and proposals to secure competitive pricing and favorable terms
Negotiate pricing, contracts, and lead times to optimize cost, quality, and delivery performance
Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to drive reliability and continuous improvement
Coordinate with suppliers from order placement through delivery to ensure on-time performance
Expedite critical materials and resolve issues related to delays, shortages, or quality concerns
Partner with production, maintenance, operations, and finance teams to support business needs and minimize downtime
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field preferred
2–4+ years of purchasing or procurement experience in a manufacturing environment
Experience managing both direct and indirect procurement categories strongly preferred
Strong negotiation and vendor management skills (pricing, contracts, lead times)
Experience with ERP/MRP systems and inventory management tools
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
