Junior Estimator

About Us:
Iron Horse Companies is a leading commercial plumbing contractor, known for delivering high-quality work across a range of sectors including Hospitality, Multi-Family, Tenant Improvements, JOC, healthcare, institutional, and educational, and Design/Build projects. As our company continues to grow, we’re looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Estimator to support our estimating department and help us win and deliver successful projects.
Position Summary: The Junior Estimator will work closely with the Senior Estimator and the preconstruction team to assist in all aspects of the bid process. This includes reviewing bid documents, performing material takeoffs, coordinating with vendors, and helping prepare accurate, competitive estimates. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, analytical, and eager to grow within the estimating or preconstruction field.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in reviewing bid documents, drawings, and specifications
Perform quantity takeoffs for plumbing materials and systems using established tools and software
Utilize CAD (preferably Revit) to support interpretation of construction drawings and design coordination
Organize and input data into estimating and bid management systems
Help prepare scope sheets, proposals, and bid packages
Request and track vendor and subcontractor pricing for materials and services
Coordinate with internal teams and vendors to ensure complete and accurate pricing
Participate in pre-bid meetings and job walks as needed
Help maintain historical cost data and bid logs for future referenceSupport the estimating team in developing budgets and cost breakdowns for projects
Learn and grow under the mentorship of senior estimators with opportunities to take on more responsibility over time
Qualifications:
3–4 years of experience in estimating, project coordination, or a related construction role (plumbing experience preferred)
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Basic understanding of plumbing systems and construction drawings
CAD experience preferred, particularly with Revit
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general computer literacy required
Experience with QuoteSoft or similar estimating software is a plus (training available)
Familiarity with Foundation Software is helpful but not required
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Positive attitude and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced team environment
