Position Summary Under the general direction of the Associate Director of Operations and Outreach, and the Assistant Director of Auxiliary Services and Operations, the Communications Coordinator (CC) is responsible for communication functions for Student Housing and Residential Life and Auxiliary Services. The CC develops and executes email content, content management, and communication strategies that support on‑campus housing recruitment, renewal, dining, campus store, staff housing, and meal plan programs. The role supports storytelling efforts, targets diverse audiences, and uses research and data analytics to inform decisions. Some evenings and weekend work may be required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead mass communication and digital media efforts to engage target audiences.
Serve as the copywriter for emails, communications, website content, and internal/external campaigns.
Oversee the curation of engaging content for students, faculty, staff, and parents/supporters.
Write, edit, and disseminate communications, including emails and newsletters, to various audiences.
Develop and edit written material, ensuring accurate reflection of departmental direction, and translate materials for Spanish‑speaking audiences.
Update communication methods, StarRez templates, and tools to align with CSUMB brand identity guidelines and student housing goals.
Assist with design and development of materials for presentations and panels.
Identify needs and interests of target groups and prepare appropriate information and materials.
Assist with campus communication efforts such as Admissions applicant mailings to support retention goals.
Develop and maintain StarRez communication templates for housing and auxiliary services programs.
Manage shared departmental email inboxes.
Create comprehensive communication schedules that align with housing processes and auxiliary service timelines.
Provide communication support for student housing and auxiliary services operations with audience‑appropriate messaging.
Support enrollment management and student affairs outreach as needed.
Collaborate with University Communications to support institutional brand and communication standards.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Work Environment The role requires sufficient physical ability and mobility for an office setting: sit or stand for prolonged periods, occasional stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, twist, lift, carry, push, or pull light to moderate weight, use office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement, and verbally communicate.

Gather, build, and analyze data from multiple sources for reporting needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and two or more years of experience writing, editing, and communicating content for individual and group distribution.
Experience managing or assisting with website content management. Substitution of required education with experience may be granted on a year‑for‑year basis.
Experience with WYSIWYG web publishing tools (Drupal, Terminal4, WordPress, etc.).
Desired Qualifications
Understanding of CSUMB Vision Statement and core values.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite for photo, video, graphic editing, and layout.
Familiarity with mass‑email marketing systems (Constant Contact, Mailchimp, Silver POP, Salesforce Marketing Cloud).
Experience with social media posting tools like Canva, Sprout, Hootsuite, Meta for Business.
Fluency in Spanish.
