The Industrial Boiler Room Technician is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation, maintenance, and repair of industrial boiler systems and related equipment. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, extensive preventive maintenance experience, and a commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have proven experience maintaining high-pressure steam systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operate, monitor, and maintain industrial boilers, burners, feedwater systems, and auxiliary equipment.
Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and control systems related to boiler operations.
Perform routine preventive maintenance to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
Conduct boiler startups, shutdowns, blowdowns, and emergency procedures.
Inspect valves, pumps, piping, gauges, and safety devices for proper operation.
Assist with major repairs, overhauls, and annual inspections.
Operational Support
Respond promptly to boiler and utility-related issues to minimize production disruptions.
Collaborate with operators, supervisors, and maintenance personnel to resolve recurring system problems.
Monitor steam pressure, temperature, fuel usage, and water chemistry to ensure optimal performance.
Support production needs by maintaining stable and reliable steam supply.
Safety & Compliance
Follow and enforce all plant safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and boiler safety regulations.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, state boiler regulations, and environmental standards.
Perform regular safety inspections and report unsafe conditions immediately.
Maintain proper boiler water treatment and chemical handling procedures.
Participate in safety training and improvement initiatives.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate logs for boiler operations, inspections, maintenance, and water treatment.
Complete work orders and equipment history records in the CMMS system.
Report equipment conditions, parts needs, and maintenance priorities to supervisors.
Assist in developing standard operating procedures and maintenance guidelines.
Support reliability and continuous improvement initiatives for boiler and utility systems.
Recommend system upgrades, efficiency improvements, and preventive strategies.
Stay current with new boiler technologies, tools, and maintenance practices.
Provide technical guidance to junior technicians and operators as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred.
Minimum
3–5 years
of industrial boiler operation and maintenance experience.
Experience in agriculture, oilseed processing, food manufacturing, or industrial utilities preferred.
Strong knowledge of steam systems, burners, pumps, valves, and water treatment processes.
Ability to read and interpret schematics, P&IDs, and technical manuals.
Familiarity with CMMS systems preferred.
Valid driver’s license preferred.

Physical Demands

Must be willing to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
