$50/hour | Up to 30 hours/week

United Way of Greater Charlotte is seeking a skilled Marketing and Communications Specialist to support our communications and donor engagement work on a part-time contract basis. This role will work closely with our team to create compelling content across digital and print channels, amplify our mission through earned media, and support the design of materials that reflect our brand and community impact.
This is a part-time contract position through the end of FY2026, (June 30, 2026) with the possibility of transitioning to a permanent role based on performance, goal attainment, and demonstrated KPIs.
Key Responsibilities Content Creation & Copywriting
Write engaging content for social media platforms, email newsletters, the organization website, and donor communications
Develop clear, mission-aligned messaging that resonates with diverse audiences including donors, community partners, and the general public
Support storytelling efforts that highlight program impact and community outcomes
Media & Public Relations
Draft press releases and pitch stories to local media outlets
Design & Visual Communications
Support the design of promotional materials, newsletters, and annual reports using tools such as Canva
Ensure brand consistency across all materials and communications channels
Collaborate with internal teams to develop print and digital assets aligned with campaigns and initiatives
What You'll Need: Experience and Skills Required
3 to 5 years of experience writing content for social media, email newsletters, websites, and donor or stakeholder communications
3 to 5 years of experience supporting the design of promotional materials, newsletters, and annual reports using tools like Canva or similar platforms
Strong written communication skills with the ability to adapt tone and voice across audiences and channels
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple deliverables independently
Must submit writing sample(s) with application
Preferred
3 to 5 years of experience drafting press releases and pitching stories to local or regional media
Familiarity with photography and photo editing software
Experience working in a nonprofit, community-based, or mission-driven organization
Knowledge of the Greater Charlotte philanthropic or civic landscape
