WWS Communications & Public Relations Intern (Summer 2026)

Westfield Washington Schools (WWS)
Location: Westfield, Indiana
Primary Work Location: WWS Administration Office (with travel to district schools and facilities)
Dates: Approximately mid-May - mid-July, 2026 (final dates TBD; Monday Friday schedule)
Schedule: [Part-time or Full-time - TBD; expected minimum hours to be determined]
Compensation: Unpaid (educational/public sector internship)

Position Overview

Westfield Washington Schools (WWS) is seeking a creative and strategic Communications & PR Intern for Summer 2026. Working closely with the Communications & PR Coordinator, this role offers hands-on experience supporting district communications, storytelling, and engagement efforts.

This internship is designed as a meaningful learning experience where the selected candidate will contribute to real projects and develop a professional portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Write and edit content for press releases, website updates, newsletters, and internal communications
  • Support media relations and social media content planning
  • Assist with photography, videography, and multimedia content creation
  • Contribute to website content updates and support district campaigns and initiatives
  • Collaborate with administrators, WWS educators and staff, and community stakeholders
  • Participate in communications planning and storytelling strategy
Capstone Project

The intern will complete a portfolio-ready capstone project aligned with district goals, developed in collaboration with the Communications & PR Coordinator.

Qualifications
  • College student (junior preferred) pursuing Communications, PR, Marketing, or related field
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Familiarity with social media platforms
  • Experience with Canva, website editors, and Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office preferred
  • Organized, adaptable, and able to work collaboratively
  • Enjoys roles where no two days look quite the same
Additional Information
  • Work is primarily based at the Central Office; travel to WWS schools and facilities is likely to be frequent too
  • Background check required
  • Internship is intended as an educational experience and is not expected to lead to full-time employment
