About the Role
The Director of Commercial Services is responsible for driving revenue growth, optimizing customer-facing operations, and managing commercial strategies such as customer engagement, inside sales, account management and business development. They align operational processes with market demands, set KPI’s to manage performance of the Customer Service Reps, Account Managers and Business Development Representative; manage key client relationships, and improve profitability. The Director of Commercial Services will also be responsible for developing best-in-class training and quality programs for employees in their organization, as well as onboarding and engagement. This position will lead the Inside Sales organization for Aftermarket, which includes the Customer Service Center and Account Management.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership and Talent Development: Recruit, select, mentor, and develop leaders and team members. Promote a culture of service excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement. Execute talent reviews, provide ongoing feedback, and minimize turnover through effective training and employee relations. Provide leadership for the Customer Service Manager and Supervisors, the Inside Sales Account Management team and the Business Development Representative to maximize growth opportunities for the business.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work cross-functionally with other departments, especially External Sales, Product Development, Ecommerce and Marketing to align support services with organizational priorities. Serve as a liaison between internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Strategic Planning: Develop and execute commercial strategies for the Inside Sales and Customer Service organizations to achieve revenue goals and expand market share.
- Operational Optimization: Streamline internal processes, manage major system upgrades, and enhance service delivery to ensure efficiency.
- Maintain high-level relationships with key clients and manage third‑party vendors or outsourcing partners.
- Financial Oversight: Oversee budgeting, forecasting and key performance indicators (KPIs) to maximize profitability.
- Market Analysis: Monitor industry trends and competitive landscapes to identify new business opportunities and market threats.
This position provides strategic leadership, direction and support for the following departments of Hercules Aftermarket:
- Inside Sales: Includes the Account Management team, who plays a key role in driving strategic revenue growth by managing high‑potential territories, reactivating dormant accounts, and nurturing new opportunities generated by the Business Development Representative (BDR) team. The Inside Sales Account Managers are responsible for territory ownership, customer engagement, quoting, and long‑term account growth, working in tandem with BDRs who focus on top‑of‑funnel prospecting and new lead generation.
- Customer Service: Direct leadership for the Customer Service Manager, who manages a team of 20‑30 customer service representatives that take inbound calls to support customers with product questions, processing orders and other troubleshooting of our services and products.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing or related field | equivalent years of experience
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing, industrial or distribution industries
- Proven track record in supporting operations, new business, and client retention strategies
- Strong understanding of the business, products, systems and the pipeline development sales process for new and existing clients
- Familiarity with CRM systems (Zoho preferred), sales reporting tools, and MS Office.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a high‑performing team.
- Strong financial acumen, negotiation skills, and leadership capabilities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, matrixed organization with complex stakeholder needs.
- Ability to travel as needed.
