Director of Engineering – Medical Injection Molding (Plastics & Silicone)

Location: Butler, WI 53007

We are seeking an experienced, design‑focused Director of Engineering with deep expertise in plastics and rubber (silicone) injection molding to lead our engineering organization. This leader will drive technical excellence, champion Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and oversee complex engineering projects from concept through launch.

Key Requirements

  • Expertise with plastics and rubber (silicone) injection molding
  • Medical molding experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with High-Consistency Rubber (HCR), Gum Silicone, and/or Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) molding
  • Strong background in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and SolidWorks
  • Proven experience as a technical, hands‑on manager
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams

About the Role

Reporting to the VP of Engineering , the Director of Engineering oversees the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering initiatives while fostering innovation, optimizing processes, and aligning engineering work with organizational strategy.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers; provide coaching and performance feedback.
  • Manage project scope, requirements, resources, and execution using the APQP process.
  • Foster collaboration across Quality, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Business Development, and customer stakeholders.
  • Manage budgets, staffing, resource allocation, and project prioritization.
  • Track project progress and implement corrective actions, continuous improvement, and lessons learned.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Serve as a hands‑on technical leader, capable of performing Project Engineer functions.
  • Review and approve SolidWorks designs, documentation, and project plans.
  • Ensure compliance with medical/industry standards, safety regulations, and quality processes.
  • Support onboarding and skill development for new engineers.
  • Select and manage toolmakers, mold component suppliers, and technical service partners.
  • Lead and enhance DFM (Design for manufacturing) processes for molding and assembly operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or related field
  • 5–10+ years of engineering leadership experience
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks
  • Strong background in budgeting, scheduling, and project management
  • Experience in medical molding and silicone molding processes highly preferred
