Recreation Specialist
Bring your creativity and leadership to the City of Fridley as a Recreation Specialist! In this dynamic role, you'll plan and deliver high-quality recreation programs and events for residents of all ages! Everything from outdoor adventures and youth enrichment to community-wide celebrations. You'll also lead and support seasonal staff, ensure safe and welcoming facilities, and help shape future programs through community outreach and evaluation. Plans, presents, and promotes diversified recreational programs for all ages including outdoor recreation, summer day camps, clubs and interest groups, teen programming and youth enrichment. Coordinates and assists in conducting special events and community-wide programs. Provides leadership for seasonal staff, including conducting staff meetings, leading trainings, and monitoring performance. Provides customer service by telephone, email and in person responding to inquiries and providing information. Coordinates facility use by opening and securing buildings, set up/take down of equipment, and monitoring patrons. Instructs and leads recreation programs and events. Plan activities and provide materials that maintain a safe and positive environment. Assists with promotional and marketing efforts in print, online, and with social media including assistance with website development and maintenance. Determines and purchases program supplies and equipment. Performs outreach and maintains contacts with neighborhood groups, schools, businesses, volunteers, etc., and coordinates services such as identification of new programs. Conducts studies to assist with the development and implementation of recreation programs and park amenities including marketing plans, recreation trends, park analysis and community outreach. Evaluates programs and events and implements the findings into future programs. Utilize registration software to reserve facilities, register participants and process reports. Prepares and maintains correspondence, files, records, reports, photos, etc. Participates in training and meetings. Performs other duties as assigned or apparent. This full-time position runs TuesdaySaturday (40 hours per week) with occasional evenings, and the anticipated start date is June 2, 2026. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Associate/Technical Degree in Parks and Recreation, Event Management, Education, Communications, or closely related field; OR Equivalent combination of education/training/experience. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite. Valid Minnesota Driver's License. Desired Qualifications: Experience in programming with all ages and abilities. First aid and CPR training. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the practices and methods of recreational programming. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Positive customer service skills. Ability to work independently and prioritize work. Ability to work collaboratively, cooperatively, and positively in a team environment. Ability to work varying hours and days to accommodate activity schedules. Ability to handle a variety of assignments under moderate supervision within standard operating procedures. Ability to apply a variety of procedures, policies and precedents using moderate analytical ability in adapting methods to fit facts and conditions. Ability to communicate with frequent contacts to supply information on specialized matters requiring detailed or technical responses.
