School Nutrition Director: Lead District-wide Meal Programs

Cafeteria Staff and District Wide Manager PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Food Service Director is responsible for the administration of the Seymour Public Schools Child Nutrition Food Service Program in accordance with Federal and State government requirements and Seymour Board of Education policies. Responsible for the overall planning, direction and achievement of the mission, operating, and financial goals of the program. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: District wide administration of Federal and State funded Child Nutrition Programs. Maintain nutritional and operational integrity of each USDA Child Nutrition Program following all USDA and CSDE (Connecticut State of Education) meal patterns and regulations including those for the Healthy Food Certification Program. Develop and maintain high standards of food preparation, meal service, sanitation and safety, with emphasis on menu appeal, nutritional value, and incorporation of local foods. Strategic maintenance of annual budget funded by food sales and federal and state funding. Develop bid specifications, standards of quality, and coordinate the procurement of all food, supplies, and equipment as needed. Direct the hiring, management, and supervision of all food service personnel. Monitors work performance and sets standards and expectations. Provide and ensure that USDA Professional Standards/annual training requirements for each staff member are met. Oversee development and delivery of food safety training including HACCP and Food Protection Certification Oversee development and analysis of menus for district based on customer satisfaction, cost factors, nutritional values, and regulatory compliance. Maintain records of income, expenditures, food, supplies, personnel and equipment. Ensure completion of annual inventories and related record keeping. Prepare monthly reimbursement claims and facilitate submission. Directly oversee all aspects of the supportive work of the District Wide Manager office work. (payroll, point of sale system, accounting, daily operations). Maintain all records as required by CSDE and USDA and ensure proper records disposal annually. Prepare and complete all requirements per the CSDE annual calendar of activities including the preparation and submission of all sponsor program applications for each child nutrition programs, verification, Healthy Food Certification, on-site monitoring, food safety report and financial report. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with and promote positive communication among staff, students, and the community. Serve as an active and primary member on the district Wellness Committee. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Associate's degree, or equivalent educational experience, with academic major in food service management and a minimum of three years' experience in school nutrition progams. Knowledge and expertise of USDA meal programs and regulations. Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. Demonstrated effective collaboration and communication skills. Demonstrated effective problem solving, planning, and organizational skills. Ability to structure own time and manage multiple priorities. Computer literacy is imperative. Experience with food service operations software, Microsoft Office, Internet and E-mail essential. General knowledge of budgets and accounting procedures related to food services operations. Excellent communication skills for working with diverse groups including food service staff, teachers, administrators, custodial, maintenance staff and vendors. Use and understanding of technology necessary to generate financial reports, State and USDA reports, and to maximize efficiency of the food service operation.
