
Utility Foreman

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Utility Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating field operations related to underground utility installation, including water, sewer, storm drain, and related infrastructure. This role ensures projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with Zak Dirt, Inc. company standards, project specifications, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The Utility Foreman serves as the primary on-site leader for utility crews and plays a critical role in maintaining productivity, safety, and quality control.
COMPENSATION: $32.00 to $47.00 per hour + company paid health benefits for employees & dependents
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop weekly production plans and schedules in coordination with the superintendent to be used in the daily oversight of crews.
Ensure the proper installation of water lines, sanitary sewer systems, storm drainage systems, manholes, vaults and related structures.
Supervise and direct daily activities of utility crew(s).
Train and develop crew members in utility installation techniques, operations and equipment
Conduct daily huddles with the crew that includes production goals, hazard recognition, tools and equipment needs, JHA’s and daily stretch and flex exercises.
Maintain work area, jobsite, vehicles and equipment in a neat, clean and organized manner.
Accurately report to supervisors or managers hours worked, productions, plan inconsistencies and completed quantities.
Oversee and give direction to crew members to ensure safety and quality standards are met while maintaining the project schedule and budget.
Enter diary notes highlighting the day’s tasks and activities and accurately complete and submit timecards daily.
Complete all activities and tasks according to the contract documents, plans and specifications by utilizing quality control procedures
Safely operate company vehicle to transport tools and materials to and from jobsites.
Ensure crew members inspect machines/tools daily prior to operation for safety issues, fluid levels and wear and record results on daily inspection forms.
Understand and apply OSHA and project safety requirements or concerns, and take corrective actions as needed.
Ensure all crew members practice safe behaviors, wear proper PPE and comply with all OSHA and project safety requirements.
Operate vehicles and equipment as required in a safe manner.
Perform other duties as assigned
Compliance with all company policies and procedures as well as the general attendance policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong knowledge of and experience in heavy civil/underground utility construction.
Ability to read, interpret and understand plan drawings.
Ability to plan detailed construction tasks including schedules, budgets, safety, quality and resource needs
Familiar with the operations of heavy construction equipment
Strong management skills including effective communication, conflict management, and prioritization skills
Leadership skills to motivate and encourage crew members
Computer, writing and organizational skills
Valid Colorado Driver’s License and insurable driving record
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required High School diploma or GED.
3+ Years of Heavy/Civil construction experience
OSHA 10 Hour Safety (preferred)
LANGUAGE SKILLS
This position requires the ability to communicate in English with co-workers, customers and the general public.
MATH SKILLS
This job requires the ability to understand and execute basic math equations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Standing and walking on uneven surfaces for long periods
Subject to continuous bouncing, shaking and equipment vibration throughout the course of their shift. Work functions require the ability to sit, stand, and ride in vehicles for long periods of time, as well as the physical ability and mobility to access equipment, modify attachments, and control cabin.
Ability to push/pull equipment parts or materials up to 50 lbs.
Ability to lift/carry equipment parts or materials up to 50 lbs.
Ability to climb into and out of equipment/vehicles
