General Description Directs the organizations accounting functions, performs professional accounting functions involving the application of accounting standards, principles and practices. This position is responsible for: general ledger maintenance, developing and maintaining planning and budgeting functions, the accuracy and timely presentation of financial information in a multi-entity organization, and to assist the President and Vice Presidents in managing the financial affairs of the organization.
Essential Duties
Develops, implements and evaluates accounting policies, report procedures and accounting controls
Responsible for the overall management of the accounting department, including setting goals and objectives and supervision of accounting and HR staff.
Ensures high quality of accounting practices according to GAAP and other professional standards.
Implements accounting changes on a timely basis
Responsible for timely and accurate financial information
Analyzes and interprets financial statements and reports for guidance of top management
Assist with preparation and assures all required tax and information returns prepared by Auditors are filed on a timely basis
Participates with other members of management in planning and controlling company operations
Maintains a sound working relationship with banks, other credit sources, and auditors
Responsible for the month‑end and annual closing of the general ledger
Responsible for creation and compilation of the combined annual budget
Responsible for interdepartmental cost allocations
Provides staff support for the Audit/Finance, Compensation and Executive Committees of the Board of Directors
Responsible for preparation for the annual independent audit of the financial statements
Facilitates open flow of information among departments on financial matters
Provides technical expertise and analytical support to all departments
Review daily cash receipts report and approve them for further processing
Generate daily journal entries
Maintain the Chart of Accounts on the computer system
Responsible for cash transfers and wires
Oversee preparation of worksheets to support the department
Responsible for various special projects and research as needed
Required Skills
Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience
7 + years experience in the accounting field
Working knowledge of nonprofit organizations, particularly 501 (c)(3), (4) and (6)
Knowledge of current accounting standards - emphasis on those that relate to nonprofit organizations (501 (c) (3), (4) and (6)) and related parties including for profit and consolidations
Knowledge of legal issues as they relate to related parties
Knowledge of current tax codes-sales and use tax, income tax for nonprofit and for-profit organizations
Detail oriented
Experience in using computerized spreadsheets
Familiarity with automated general ledger systems
Desirable Experience
Windows environment experience; preferably Microsoft 365, including: Teams, Microsoft Word and Excel
Knowledge of SL, Accumatica or similar accounting package
Knowledge of MC Trade database or similar A/R – membership database
