Summary The purpose of the Assistant Principal for Athletics and Activities is to manage and coordinate all high school athletic, clubs, and extracurricular activity programs to promote student engagement and positive school culture, ensure all students have an equal opportunity to participate and share in the benefits of the high school's extracurricular programs, promote extracurricular opportunities based upon student interests, and encourage healthy competition and sportsmanship.

Job Responsibilities
In coordination with the Principal, Superintendent and other designees, supervises the High School's athletic and activity programs as well as recommending policies and procedures relating to the high school's extracurricular programs.
Analyze and evaluate existing athletic and activity programs and equipment for the purpose of ensuring they serve the best interest of the district and the students who participate, meet applicable laws and regulations, and ensure safety of participants.
Leads the recruitment, selection, supervision and evaluation of all coaches, sponsors, trainers, and secretaries connected with the high school's extracurricular programs.
Analyzes student participation and develops procedures to ensure that the maximum number of students have the opportunity to participate in athletic and extracurricular activities as well as ensures that the programs do not discriminate against student participation of any kind.
Supervises and oversees the scheduling and maintenance of the high school's auditorium, amphitheater, library, and athletic facilities for practices, competitions, and events.
Works with elementary and middle school administrators as well as community feeder programs to develop strong connections with the athletic and extracurricular programs offered at the high school.
Disseminates information as needed regarding the time and places for all athletic events and coordinates communication with all extracurricular sponsors.
Supervises and coordinates the budget and finances for all high school sports and extracurricular programs and events, including inventory and control of uniforms, supplies and equipment.
Serves as the representative and liaison to all IHSA, conference, and other events related to Athletic Director and/or Activities Director meetings, Athletic Booster Clubs, and any other activities & sports-related group as needed.
Assists in ensuring that all applicable laws and regulations relating to athletics and extracurricular school-related activities are applied and followed, including Title IX and other federal and state laws and regulations.
Coordinates the transportation schedule and provides for safe and cost-effective transportation for off-site athletic and extracurricular groups and events.
Coordinates the selection and compensation of sports officials/referees for on-site events, and represents the district for the purpose of securing the highest possible quality of officiating.
Works with the IHSA, conference leadership, and district administration to establish criteria for awards relating to participation and demonstrating excellence in school district athletic/extracurricular programs, including eligibility requirements.
Creates materials to publicize athletic, sporting, and extracurricular events, both in printed and electronic formats, for the purpose of disseminating information and fostering enhanced awareness among students, staff, and the community in recognizing and supporting the school's athletic and extracurricular programs and attending events.
Maintains professional relationship with media sources for the purpose of providing information regarding events, schedules, postponements or cancellations, sporting event statistics, records, and other relevant information.
Coordinates with the nurses, secretaries, and other related staff on scheduling, organizing, and collecting the appropriate medical documentation for athletic participation - including but not limited to physical examinations and concussion baseline testing for all participants in athletics.
Handles all accidents and injuries in accordance with school policies, and applicable laws and regulations, including reporting and documentation requirements.
Maintains records and documents as required and necessary to ensure proper documentation of athletic program and extracurricular activities, events, participation, and related information for the purpose of complying with school policies as well as applicable laws and regulations.
Facilitates the efforts of coaches to market and promote athletes for athletic scholarships and college placements.
Coordinates with the secretary and driver's education instructors records and documentation as required and necessary for the Driver's Education classroom and Behind-the-Wheel programs.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the High School Principal or Superintendent.
