Director of Analytics & Data Products
Hearst Communications, Inc., New York, NY, United States
The Corporate Data Team is looking for a Director of Analytics Strategy to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for operationalizing and enabling the analytics layer that supports identity resolution, audience strategy, and data product development for all of Hearst Consumer Media including TV, newspapers and magazines. In particular, you will partner closely with our enterprise Product and Engineering teams to ensure that audience definitions, analytics systems, and data outputs are scalable, consistent, and integrated into business workflows.
This role sits at the intersection of analytics, product development, and data strategy. You will help translate business and product needs into durable analytics systems, including reusable data models, semantic definitions and audience frameworks. The ideal candidate combines strong technical fluency with systems thinking and thrives in cross-functional environments where analytics supports product innovation and business outcomes.
This is a hybrid role based in New York City and will report to the VP of Audience Analytics.
Key Responsibilities
Operationalize Audience and Identity Data: Partner with Product and Engineering teams to translate audience and identity initiatives into scalable analytics systems. Define and support the technical implementation of canonical business concepts especially around audiences so they can be reliably used across data products, reporting, and downstream applications.
Enable Usage of Scalable Analytics Infrastructure: Design scalable data models, dashboards, and semantic layers that enable usage, development and innovation across media divisions. Ensure that data products are well-documented, governed, and widely adopted.
Drive Audience and Identity Insights: Oversee analytics systems that measure the performance and adoption of the identity graph and related audience initiatives. Establish benchmarks, reporting frameworks, and performance indicators that guide audience development and targeting strategies.
Enable Cross-Functional Alignment: Serve as a connective layer between analytics, product, and engineering teams to ensure shared understanding of metrics, audience definitions, and data requirements. Promote best practices in documentation, governance, and measurement standards.
Advance Data Readiness for Emerging Technologies: Help structure audience and engagement data in ways that support future personalization, AI-enabled products, and automated decision systems across Hearst’s digital platforms.
Qualifications
7–10 years of experience in analytics, business intelligence, data strategy, product analytics, or a related data role
Advanced proficiency in SQL and experience working with large-scale data warehouses such as BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake or similar platforms
Experience developing identity systems, semantic layers, or scalable reporting systems that support cross-functional product or business teams
Experience working with modern analytics engineering frameworks (e.g., dbt, Dagster, Airflow) and collaborating with engineering teams to design scalable data transformation and analytics workflows
Demonstrated ability to partner with Product and Engineering teams to translate business needs into technical data requirements
Familiarity with common machine learning applications and an understanding of the types of structured datasets required to support personalization, recommendation systems, and predictive modeling
Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex data concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
Familiarity with the digital media ecosystem, including audience analytics, advertising measurement, and cross-platform user behavior
