
Youth Recovery Outreach Strategist

seeks an Outreach Specialist II to advance our mission of improving behavioral health services for youth in the St. Louis region. A central focus of this position is helping to establish Recovery High Schools in the St. Louis region. Recovery High Schools combine academics and recovery support while honoring students’ developmental stage, with all the hallmarks of a real high school experience including clubs, homecoming, and prom. The Outreach Specialist II will lead school district outreach and referral network development, build community and professional awareness, and ensure that the voices of young people in recovery shape these schools from the start. Key Responsibilities School District Outreach and Referral Network Development Primary responsibility Cultivate relationships with school counselors, administrators, and student support staff to build a strong referral network for the Recovery High School and Alternative Peer Group Lead outreach efforts to help school districts understand the Recovery High School model, its eligibility criteria, and how to connect students and families to enrollment Implement the school survey to assess how schools are currently identifying and addressing youth SUD challenges, and use findings to inform Recovery High School awareness and referral strategies Strengthen coordination among schools, treatment providers, and families to ensure appropriate and timely referral to remission-focused treatment and recovery support services, including the Recovery High School Community Outreach and Education Working alongside the Director of Programs and Community Engagement Plan and attend monthly community meetings and represent Aspire, including the Recovery High School, at select tabling and speaking opportunities as assigned Convey research and key messages to professionals and community members throughout the year, translating scientific information in meaningful ways that reduce stigma, highlight remission pathways for youth, and build community understanding of and support for the Recovery High School Record all outreach interactions in Bloomerang CRM Youth Advisory Board Leadership Primary responsibility Serve as the primary liaison to the Youth Advisory Board (YAB), which meets monthly — the YAB is central to Recovery High School establishment, providing the student pipeline, authentic youth voice, and on-the-ground insight into what will attract and retain students in recovery Center youth voice in all organizational activities, ensuring that programming, messaging, and strategic decisions reflect the perspectives and priorities of those with lived experience, particularly students who will shape the Recovery High School before it opens Engage YAB members as co-creators in planning the annual Youth SUD Summit so the event celebrates the youth recovery community, including those in the Recovery High School Create meaningful pathways for YAB members to advocate for systems change, including building awareness and support for the Recovery High School model at local, state, and regional levels Workforce Development Shared responsibility with opportunity for expanded leadership Help design and implement educational and outreach opportunities such as the There Is Hope Youth SUD Summit, Aspire’s flagship education and outreach event, with support from the Director of Programs and Community Engagement Incorporate Recovery High School awareness into Summit programming and messaging, ensuring attendees understand the model, its role in a Recovery-Oriented System of Care, and how to support student access Extend key messages year-round through outreach materials and presentations to schools, behavioral health providers, and nonprofit organizations, with the Recovery High School as a centerpiece of Aspire’s continuum of care Evaluation and Measurement Coordination Supporting responsibility Serve as Aspire’s primary contact with Washington University, coordinating evaluation and measurement activities across all programs, with special focus on the Recovery High School Facilitate data collection, survey administration, and outcome tracking to assess program effectiveness and support continuous improvement Support Aspire and Washington University in grant compliance and documentation Qualifications Education Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH), Social Work (MSW), Public Policy, Education, or a related field preferred; current graduate students in these programs will also be considered Bachelor’s degree with significant relevant experience will also be considered Experience Experience in community outreach, program coordination, public health, behavioral health, education, or nonprofit settings Familiarity with substance use disorder treatment, recovery support services, or youth-serving systems preferred Experience working with schools, alternative education models, government agencies, or cross-sector coalitions a plus Skills and Attributes Strong relationship-builder who can connect authentically with diverse stakeholders including youth, families, educators, treatment providers, and policymakers Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into accessible messages Self-starter who takes initiative and manages multiple priorities with minimal supervision Deep commitment to centering lived experience and youth voice in systems change work Collaborative spirit and comfort working as part of a small, mission-driven team Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to track data and meet grant reporting requirements Passion for improving outcomes for young people affected by substance use disorders To Apply –Please send a resume and cover letter to
