Overview The Director, SAP Platform Engineering & Security Lead serves as the technical authority for ADUSA's SAP S/4HANA Retail Spine Transformation program, providing strategic technology leadership and operational oversight across the entire SAP technical landscape. This leader will own the end-to-end technical architecture, platform strategy, and delivery excellence across SAP Basis, environment management, release/change management, application development (ABAP/Fiori), security & GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance), quality assurance/testing, and integration frameworks.
Reporting directly into the ERP Transformation executive leadership structure, this position architects scalable, secure, and high-performance SAP solutions that enable business transformation while ensuring platform stability, security compliance, and operational resilience across ADUSA's multi-brand retail operations.
This leader partners closely with functional tech leads, System Integrator (SI) technical architects, SAP platform specialists, and enterprise infrastructure teams to establish modern cloud-native architectures, DevOps practices, security frameworks, and automation strategies that support the 5-7 year transformation journey. The role demands deep technical expertise across SAP technologies combined with proven executive leadership capabilities to build and guide high-performing technical teams, manage multi-million dollar technology investments, and deliver mission-critical platform capabilities that underpin the retail transformation.
Our flexible/hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Responsibilities Application Development & Clean Core Enablement
Lead SAP development across ABAP, Fiori/UI5, SAP BTP extensions, APIs/OData, workflows, forms, and cloud-native services aligned to a Clean Core strategy.
Enforce custom code governance and technical design standards: BAdI-based extensibility, API-first integration, separation of concerns, and reduction of technical debt.
Establish SAP BTP as the strategic platform for innovation, low-code, automation, and future-proof extensibility.
Own enterprise integration architecture across CPI/PI, API Management, EDI/B2B, and real-time vs batch patterns for the retail ecosystem.
Platform, Basis & Environment Leadesrhip
Own SAP Basis and platform operations across SAP S/4HANA, HANA DB, and RISE-managed infrastructure including system monitoring, patching, upgrades, transport management, system refreshes, backups, and performance optimization.
Define and govern the environment strategy (Sandbox → Prod → DR), including provisioning standards, refresh cadence, data masking/anonymization, and configuration isolation across all in-scope systems.
Architect and oversee High Availability and Disaster Recovery capabilities including HANA System Replication, RPO/RTO targets, DR testing, and incident/runbook execution.
Drive proactive capacity planning and performance engineering to ensure sub-second response times for mission-critical retail transactions during peak volumes.
Security, GRC & Compliance
Serve as executive owner for SAP Security and GRC including role design, SoD management, access controls, Firefighter, audit readiness, and SOX/PCI/GDPR compliance.
Define and enforce SAP security architecture: SSO/MFA, encryption, PAM, network security, vulnerability management, and SIEM integration.
Lead role lifecycle management, access reviews, authorization governance, and toxic conflict mitigation in partnership with Audit and InfoSec.
Establish SAP security KPIs and executive reporting aligned to NIST/ISO27001 frameworks.
Quality Engineering, Testing & Automation
Own SAP QA strategy including test governance, automation, tooling, and release quality gates across Agile/Hybrid delivery models.
Drive continuous testing and automation for regression, interfaces, performance, and peak-load simulation.
Coordinate unit → SIT → UAT → DR → Prod validation across SI partners and business teams.
Establish quality metrics (defect leakage, MTTR, coverage, SLA uptime) and continuous improvement programs.

Requirements
Bachelor's degree in computer science, CIS or related (or equivalent related work experience).
15+ years of progressive SAP technical leadership experience with deep expertise across SAP Basis, application development, security, and integration technologies.
5+ years in senior leadership roles with direct accountability for large SAP technical teams.
Proven track record leading 3+ full-lifecycle SAP S/4HANA transformation programs from planning through stabilization, preferably in retail, consumer goods, or distribution-intensive industries.
Hands‑on technical expertise in SAP Basis administration, HANA database management, ABAP development, Fiori/UI5, SAP BTP, security/GRC, and integration technologies with demonstrated ability to provide technical guidance and make critical architecture decisions.
Working knowledge of SAP security architecture, SAP GRC Access Control, authorization management, SoD (Segregation of Duties), compliance frameworks (SOX, GDPR, PCI-DSS), and cybersecurity best practices for SAP environments.
Experience with integration technologies including SAP PI/PO, Cloud Integration (CPI), API Management, EDI frameworks, and enterprise integration patterns.
Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, test automation, and agile methodologies adapted for SAP environments.
Experience architecting and implementing large‑scale SAP landscapes with complex integration requirements, high‑availability architectures, and global deployment footprints.
Demonstrated success building and leading technical organizations, including hiring and developing top talent, establishing technical standards and governance, and driving cultural transformation toward DevOps, automation, and innovation.
Ability to travel as needed to support program execution and brand alignment.
Salary Range: $185,840 - $278,760
