About Us Miscellaneous Metals, Inc. is a leading miscellaneous steel fabrication and installation company (Division 5) serving commercial and industrial customers across the Washington, D.C. metro area. We are seeking a senior operational leader to oversee and integrate company-wide operations and support long-term leadership succession.
The Role This role is best suited for candidates who have grown through project management and operations within a steel fabrication company and understand the full lifecycle from detailing to fabrication to field installation. The Director of Operations oversees day‑to‑day operations with a strong focus on project execution, production flow, and cross‑functional coordination. This is a hands‑on leadership role overseeing day‑to‑day operations across project management, engineering/detailing, fabrication, field operations, and safety, ensuring projects move efficiently from contract award through fabrication and installation. This position reports directly to the Owner and works closely with the President.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the Project Management team, ensuring alignment of schedules, budgets, and production timelines
Oversee weekly production and coordination meetings
Coordinate fabrication schedules with the Shop Manager
Oversee Engineering/Detailing and Field Operations through department leadership
Establish and monitor operational performance metrics related to production output, schedule adherence, and labor efficiency
Lead monthly Safety Committee meetings and promote a strong safety culture
Ensure compliance with OSHA, safety, and quality standards
Partner with finance on operational budgets and cost controls
Serve as a liaison across operations, sales, estimating, HR, and customer service
Required Industry Experience
(NON-NEGOTIABLE)
10+ years of progressive operations leadership experience in steel fabrication (Division 5 commercial construction)
Proven experience managing project managers, shop operations, and production-driven environments
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or related Master’s preferred
Additional Requirements
Must be authorized to work in the United States without a current or future employer visa sponsorship need
Fully on-site role
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range:
$150,000 - $175,000 , commensurate with experience
