Position Summary

The Assistant Director of System Engineering will oversee core and research systems as the primary or secondary administrator (listed below). This role acts as the primary storage administrator and supports the College of Engineering across multiple campuses. Responsibilities include building and deploying computers for faculty and students, ensuring Linux security standards, installing software on request, and maintaining Linux system images for client deployment.

This role supervises 2-3 full-time OIT staff and manages the System Engineering side of the OIT office, including ticket assignment, ensuring quality service, conducting weekly team meetings, and hiring/training staff.

Core competencies include critical analysis, adherence to university, state, and federal policies, and collaboration with faculty IT needs.

  • Windows Server Administrator (High-Availability Hyper-V Clusters)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Effective public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to lead and manage a technical professional staff.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Creative, proactive, and able to drive projects independently.
  • Strong knowledge of macOS, Red Hat and Ubuntu Linux, Windows desktop OS.
  • Strong scripting, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience partnering with engineering faculty and IT requirements.
  • Working knowledge of cloud computing, engineering applications, and Microsoft Intune.
  • Working knowledge of networking, SAN Storage, and databases (Microsoft SQL and MySQL).
