Job Title: Mechanical Designer Join a dynamic team in Ann Arbor focusing on the remanufacturing and light assembly of automotive components. This role involves working with remanufactured steering and related automotive parts, ensuring they meet or exceed original equipment performance standards. Contribute to extending the life of critical vehicle components through sustainable remanufacturing practices.

Responsibilities

Create and modify 3D part models, assemblies, and detailed drawings in SolidWorks, ensuring manufacturable designs and clean documentation.

Design and develop fixtures and tooling used in assembly, remanufacturing, inspection, and functional testing.

Translate customer problems or requirements into practical mechanical design solutions, capturing scope, constraints, and intended use.

Interact with customers to provide technical support, clarify requirements, and participate in design reviews.

Generate or support quoting inputs by building BOM content, coordinating with suppliers/manufacturers for part pricing, and supporting estimates.

Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, quality, and production/logistics to ensure designs support build execution and process needs.

Participate in hands‑on build support and production readiness activities, incorporating feedback from the shop floor/test environment into design iterations.

Maintain and improve design standards and best practices, including drawing consistency and reusable design approaches.

Essential Skills

1 year of experience communicating directly with customers to provide technical support.

2 years of experience creating fixture and component designs using SolidWorks.

1 year of experience in designing and developing fixtures and tooling used in assembly, remanufacturing, inspection, and functional testing.

Demonstrated ability to create conceptual through fully detailed designs.

Comfortable building/maintaining BOM packages and calling manufacturers to order/quote parts as needed.

Automotive or aerospace experience.

Work Environment This position is based in Ann Arbor, with operations from 8 AM to 5 PM, offering flexibility from 7 AM to 4 PM. The work environment is collaborative, offering hands‑on engineering roles with visibility across product development, operations, quality, and suppliers. It provides an opportunity to design and launch new remanufactured product lines across diverse industries, making a measurable impact on product reliability, cost efficiency, and sustainability.

Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ann Arbor, MI.

Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 – $34.00/hr.
