Summer Intern – Public Outreach Under direct supervision, Summer Interns participate in a ten-week professional development program designed to provide hands‑on, entry‑level experience aligned with the student’s major field of study and the sponsoring department’s business operations. Interns gain real-world exposure to OCTA operations and the transportation industry while contributing to meaningful projects and learning from experienced professionals.

As a Summer College Intern, you will be exposed to OCTA’s career opportunities in the transportation industry. You will gain deeper awareness of transportation’s many facets through your OCTA orientation, projects and teams, and internal networking.

This is a temporary, full‑time internship position (approximately 40 hours per week) and runs for ten weeks during the summer. The pay range is from $19.00 – $22.00 per hour depending on your education level.

What You’ll Do

Develop awareness of transportation operations through OCTA orientation, projects, and cross‑department collaboration

Perform entry‑level professional duties aligned with your major and the sponsoring department’s initiatives

Support multicultural public relations and communications strategies

Conduct informal and formal research to support outreach campaigns and departmental projects

Assist in planning and coordinating communications strategies to effectively reach target audiences

Help implement communication program plans and measure performance against goals and objectives

Compile data, visuals, and presentation materials for reporting and stakeholder engagement

Present findings and interface with diverse internal and external audiences

What We’re Looking For

Currently enrolled full‑time college student (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior) at an accredited two‑ or four‑year college or university

Students that graduated with their bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in the fall of 2025 or plan to graduate in the spring of 2026 are eligible

Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Public Policy, or a related field

Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills

Interest in public engagement, multicultural communications, and transportation‑related outreach

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

Creative thinker with strong research and analytical skills
