
Public Health Community Engagement Intern

LifeSource is hiring a Community Engagement Intern to be responsible for actively engaging in community outreach and education by positively representing, answering questions, and sharing expected family experience about organ, eye, and tissue donation. Participate in executing the strategic initiatives of engaging in community events driven to educate and support the wellbeing of our population. Apply knowledge and education of public health challenges, social behaviors, the environment, and technology to recommend effective education methods. Create excitement and drive participation in current and new event opportunities within the community, collaborating on media and communication efforts. Responsible for creating and updating documentation aligned with education initiatives.
Internship is scoped for May-September 2026. This is a great opportunity for candidates who have completed Junior year or a new grad in a Public Health, Communications, Marketing, or related degree program! May apply internship credits from this role towards achievement of certificate/degree.
As a Community Engagement Intern, you’ll advance our life-saving work by performing the following job duties:
Actively participate in and support community events centered on BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities (Juneteenth, Twin Cities PRIDE Parade, Indigenous Peoples Day and other Community Health Fairs) and provide outreach by answering questions, ensuring clarity and driving support for organ, eye and tissue donation.
With guidance from Community Engagement Liaisons, actively engage in evaluating education opportunities across the LifeSource donor service area. Develop and execute strategies for participation by team members and trained donation supporting volunteers. Partner with community engagement team members to share and promote opportunities across social media and in print. Research best practices and serve as a resource for alternative strategies and educational events.
Learn and execute full coordination and participation in community events, frequently held on the weekends.
Gain thorough knowledge of required steps for participation including registration, communication, participation, and follow-up in accordance with strategic initiatives. Efficiently organize and execute all aspects of event participation including attendance at event. Serve as resource responsible for communicating to volunteers and team members about event timeline, expectations, and guidelines. Attend meetings, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously providing prompt, thorough, and respectful customer service to all team members. Assist with special projects and other work, such as documentation and office administration tasks.
Rate : $22/hour.
Qualifications
Requires enrollment in Public Health, Communications, Marketing, or related degree program. (completion of Junior year or new grad preferred) Previous experience in collaborating, communicating, developing, and maintaining relationships within community organizations or associations, preferred. Bilingual speaking proficiency is preferred to be able to communicate via diverse languages representative of Minneapolis/St. Paul community members. Strong written and verbal communication skills including previous experience with public speaking. Must be organized, detail oriented and have excellent critical thinking and analytical skills. Ability to take initiative, establish priorities, problem solve and function independently. Demonstrated ability to exhibit a high degree of quality, integrity, and honor confidentiality of appropriate information including, but not limited to, personal team member data, organizational operations or work processes, donor and donor family information, contributor details, any financial information and medical or protected health information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Proven skilled and competent in using technology-based tools such as personal computers and related software, mobile devices, and electronic medical record systems as appropriate for position.
Schedule
Approximately 25 hours per week, both weekday business hours and weekends, to engage in event execution. Schedule adjusted to accommodate organizational requirements. Will travel locally to events within Minneapolis/St Paul metro area. Internship is scoped for May-September 2026.
