Job Summary & Scope The Communications Specialist (CS) is responsible for developing and leading programs and activities that promote organ, tissue, and eye donation and education, as well as increasing the number of Arkansans registered as donors in the Arkansas donor registry. The Communications Specialist must develop an education strategy to effectively deliver the donor message, thereby maximizing public awareness of organ, tissue, and eye donation. The Communications Specialist must also deliver accurate donor awareness information to encourage Arkansans to register as organ, tissue, and eye donors. Must be capable of working with a high degree of autonomy, developing and monitoring their own work schedule, and carrying out program plans with limited to no direct supervision.
Essential Functions
Develop ongoing education programs to increase public awareness and education about organ, tissue, and eye donation, and donor registration. This includes creating and developing presentations tailored to the audience.
Establish relationships with organizations, including educational, religious, community, and civic institutions and organizations, to provide donor education programs.
Schedule programs and activities to promote organ and tissue donor education and registration. Responsible for the set-up and take-down of events/activity/booth, including physical space and materials.
Formulate and submit accurate and regular reports documenting the results of assigned program activities.
Responsible for monitoring expenses related to Communications materials and functions.
Produces, manages, and distributes clear, compelling, and brand aligned content across internal and external channels to support organizational priorities and community outreach efforts.
Specialized Focus Groups
Communications Specialists with a specific focus on minority groups (e.g., African-American and Latinx) have goals and objectives established by the Director of Public Relations.
Secondary Functions
Provide Arkansans accurate information regarding organ, tissue, and eye donation and to encourage them to register as organ, tissue and eye donors either through the online donor registry, State Department of Motor Vehicles Office, or other legally acceptable means.
Perform as official Southern Legacy of Life (SLL) representative at community activities and special events.
Organizational Expectations
Maintain regular and punctual attendance at assigned work location. Accurately document timekeeping records.
Complete and maintain appropriate documentation in a timely and thorough manner including activities. Examples include: training documentation, mileage, expenses, electronic schedule of SLL events, and other forms. Proof work for accuracy and completeness.
Exhibit and model SLL’s conduct standards, mission, and organizational clarity (core purpose, core values, business definition, and strategic anchors) in all job functions and interactions both internal and external to SLL. Utilize the SLL strategic anchors: Creating a Culture of Donation, Financially Sound, Quality, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) during work activities and in the decision-making process.
Attendance at staff meetings, training programs, and/or in-services meetings, as required.
Demonstrate professional appearance, behavior, and standards in all business dealings and interactions.
Demonstrate professional conduct and behavior reflective of SLL’s respect, honor, admiration, and reverence for the donor and donor family.
Foster effective relationships with client representatives.
With the approval of division Director, serves on national committees.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Risk Exposure to Blood/Body Fluids: While performing some essential functions of your position, you may be exposed to blood or body fluids. Established procedures identify the appropriate personal protective measures that you should use when performing essential functions of your position. The SLL Safety program will provide you with the appropriate procedures and guidelines in which you should perform the essential duties of your job. Competency Evaluation: Competency evaluations are required for this position. Your supervisor will notify you when your evaluation is to be conducted.

Work Environment
Works in various locations, including normal office environment and other locations as essential and secondary functions necessitates.
Required to carry a cellular telephone for business purposes.
Frequent travel required by personal vehicle to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Non-smoking office.
Work Hours Extensive travel, some overnight. Forty-hour workweek with occasional weekends, holidays, or evenings.
Requirements Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Communications, Marketing, or Public Relations, or,
Minimum experience 3-5 years in an education/communications-related position.
Proven proficiency in public speaking before a variety of audiences.
Ability to provide clear and concise interviews with media outlets.
Ability to work irregular hours, travel overnight, using own vehicle for this purpose.
Consistent demonstration of: attention to detail, precision, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
Possess strong prioritization skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks.
Ability to utilize general office equipment, software, and must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Maintain a valid driver’s license, reliable automobile, and proof of automobile insurance.
