On-site at an Alpha School campus: Lake Forest (Orange County), CA Palo Alto, CA Piedmont, CA Santa Barbara, CA Santa Monica, CA Fort Lauderdale, FL Palm Beach Gardens, FL Chicago, IL Boston, MA Raleigh, NC Portland, OR Seattle, WA Annual salary of $120,000 USD, distributed weekly. Health, dental, and vision coverage begins immediately Relocation assistance available. Teaching certification not required.
The most disruptive act in modern education is to stop teaching. Not to stop investing; to stop delivering lectures. To stop positioning yourself at the front of a classroom transmitting information that adaptive algorithms can transmit more effectively, more rapidly, and with greater personalization than any instructor. If that statement triggers resistance, this position is not for you. If it sparks interest, continue reading.
Alpha School has constructed a framework in which students acquire academic knowledge via AI-driven applications and dedicate their face-to-face time with you to capabilities software cannot impart: public speaking, concentration, perseverance, and the exchange of constructive feedback. You do not present lessons. You facilitate workshops. You coach. You inspire a compact group of K-12 learners to achieve challenging weekly milestones, and you enforce those milestones with the same rigor you apply to yourself. The students who evaluate their Guide most favorably are not those whose Guide made things easiest. They are those whose Guide respected them enough to maintain expectations.
Your initial year centers on skill mastery: internalizing Alpha's coaching methodology, cultivating rapport with your group, and determining how to achieve 100% goal attainment across your students each week. As you demonstrate your capacity to uphold standards while earning student affection, progression to Lead Guide becomes accessible—a role in which you mentor a team of Guides while continuing to work directly with students. Alpha is expanding to new locations, and those who establish excellence today will be the architects of its replication tomorrow.
If you have navigated traditional education systems sensing something was fundamentally flawed, or if you have never entered education professionally but have always believed you could redirect a young person's path, this is where that conviction becomes your vocation.
What You Will Be Doing
Facilitating one-hour life skills sessions with K-12 students covering subjects such as public speaking, concentration, and feedback delivery—interactive, hands-on experiences where you engage and perform rather than lecture Guiding a compact student cohort daily, leveraging Coachbot data and motivational strategies to ensure continuous progression through their educational applications Conducting and administering mastery-oriented assessments (Test2Pass) that confirm genuine skill acquisition, not mere attendance Building individual connections: discovering each student's passions, identifying their unique motivators, and tailoring your coaching methods to fit Maintaining excellence standards: 100% weekly goal completion across your cohort, along with 90%+ satisfaction ratings in student feedback surveys
What You Won’t Be Doing
Instructing traditional academic content. Students acquire mathematics, literacy, and science skills via adaptive software. You will not use a whiteboard to explain arithmetic operations. Creating lesson plans independently. Alpha supplies a structured life skills curriculum with implementation guides. Your responsibility is execution and engagement, not curriculum design. Evaluating assignments or conducting standardized exam preparation. No report cards need completion, and no state testing requires rehearsal. Supervising students passively while they use computers. When students encounter obstacles, you train them in problem-solving strategies. Passive observation contradicts this role's purpose. Compromising standards in response to student resistance. The coaching framework depends on sustaining high expectations, not yielding when situations become challenging.
