Residential Real Estate Paralegal/Legal Assistant

The Steeg Law Firm, a prominent real estate firm in the CBD, is looking for a Legal Assistant/Paralegal to work with several attorneys in our residential and some commercial real estate section. The firm’s title insurance agency, Orleans Title Insurance Agency, is ALTA Best Practices Certified.

Key Responsibilities Transaction Support

Coordinate all aspects of real estate transactions from contract to closing including post-closing.

Prepare, review, and organize closing documents, including deeds, mortgages, assignments, affidavits, settlement statements and accounting ledgers.

Manage critical dates, deadlines, and checklists to ensure timely completion of tasks.

Order and review title commitments, abstracts, surveys, public records searches, zoning reports, and other due diligence materials.

Identify title defects and work with title companies, surveyors, and attorneys to resolve issues.

Prepare title and due diligence summaries for attorney review.

Closing Coordination

Communicate with clients, lenders, real estate agents and brokers and title agents, and facilitate closings.

Prepare closing binders and ensure all executed documents are properly collected, organized, and distributed.

Handle post‑closing tasks such as recording documents, title curative items, tracking deliverables, and maintaining transaction files.

Manage funding of closings.

Document & File Management

Maintain organized electronic and physical files for all transactions.

Manage document execution, notarization, and delivery.

Assist with entity formation, good‑standing certificates, and corporate organizational documents when needed.

Skills & Qualifications Required

Experience as a real estate paralegal (typically 3+ years for mid‑level roles).

Strong understanding of real estate transaction processes, title review, and closing procedures.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deals simultaneously.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, NetDocs and Softpro, Pro-Trust, Pro-1099 a plus.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

Experience with residential real estate transactions.

Familiarity with ALTA surveys, public records filings, and escrow procedures.

Attention to details and deadlines.

Comfortable working independently while supporting multiple attorneys.

Skilled at building positive relationships with clients and third‑party vendors.

Calm under pressure and adaptable when deals shift quickly.
