Strategic Industry Business Developer - TX
Generac Power Systems, Houston, TX, United States
We are Generac, a leading energy technology company committed to powering a smarter world.
Over the 60 plus years of Generac’s history, we’ve been dedicated to energy innovation. From creating the home standby generator market category, to our current evolution into an energy technology solutions company, we continue to push new boundaries.
Overview Generac Industrial Strategic Programs (GISP) is charged with creating and scaling new growth markets for Generac Industrial Energy. This role is built for a
front‑end market creator
—someone who aggressively identifies opportunity, opens doors, and converts complex energy challenges into executed commercial projects.
The Strategic Industry Business Developer will
hunt, originate, and close
large, integrated distributed energy solutions across priority Texas markets. This individual will not wait for inbound leads or fully defined opportunities. Instead, they will proactively engage customers, shape demand, structure solutions, and drive projects from first conversation through execution.
This role requires deep fluency in distributed energy resources, strong commercial instincts, and the confidence to operate independently in ambiguous, fast‑moving markets. Success is measured by
pipeline
created,
opportunities advanced, and revenue delivered
—not activity for activity’s sake.
Responsibilities
Originate and aggressively pursue
new customer opportunities across priority markets including:
Texas Backup Power Package (TBPPP)
Data Centers
Commercial & Industrial (C&I)
Distributed Utility Capacity
Oil & Gas
Build and own a
self‑generated pipeline
of high‑value projects, driving opportunities from early discovery through commercial close.
Act as the
primary deal driver , leading customer engagement, shaping project scope, and coordinating internal resources to advance execution.
Identify target customers, developers, utilities, and partners; initiate conversations; and convert market signals into actionable opportunities.
Clearly and persuasively position Generac’s integrated solutions—generators, BESS, controls, and microgrids—against competing alternatives.
Work cross‑functionally with technical, deal structuring, and product teams to translate customer needs into commercially viable solutions.
Identify barriers to deal execution (technical, commercial, regulatory) and proactively work to remove them.
Develop and maintain strong external relationships with Generac Industrial Distributors, EPCs, developers, financiers, and end customers to accelerate deal flow.
Maintain deep working knowledge of Generac’s technology stack (engines, storage, multi‑asset controls, PV, fuel cells, energy management) and apply it to real‑world customer problems.
Operate with high autonomy while aligning to strategic direction from the Senior Director of Strategy and Growth.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree or equivalent experience
8 years of sales or business development experience selling directly into the assigned industry
Ability to travel up to 50%
Preferred Qualifications
Located in a major Texas market with the ability to leverage a local, active industry network.
Proven experience
originating
behind‑the‑meter Commercial & Industrial DER projects, including understanding how projects are financed and monetized.
More than 5 years of demonstrated success in
hunting, creating, and closing
opportunities in DER, microgrids, backup power, or adjacent energy markets.
Established relationships with customers, developers, EPCs, utilities, or partners that can be converted into near‑term pipeline.
Track record of operating effectively in unstructured environments where success depends on initiative, persistence, and judgment.
