Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

Pine Forest Country Club is a 27-hole private club located in west Houston, TX. The club is currently undergoing a 3-year renovation project to renovate all greens complexes with TifEagle Bermudagrass putting surfaces, TifTuf Approaches & Fairways, new bunkers, as well as adding drainage throughout the property. Working with Golf Course Architect Baxter Spann, the renovation is projected to be completed in the Fall of 2026. Phase 1 & 2 are completed and opened in October 2025; phase 3 ongoing with an expected opening date in Fall of 2026.

The Assistant Superintendent will report to the Head Golf Course Superintendent and will work with the Senior Assistant & other Assistant Superintendent to help manage the day-to-day operation including, but not limited to:

Supervise maintenance staff, schedule daily tasks, and oversee quality control during daily golf course setup.

Audit irrigation sprinklers and adjust / repair irrigation issues.

Understanding of plant health as it relates to irrigation, fertilizer, chemical applications, and mowing frequencies.

Participate in chemical applications through calibration, mixing, applying, and accurately reading chemical labels.

Conduct on-course training as well as monthly department safety trainings to assist the operators in being safely and proficiently trained on any equipment they are operating.

Daily evaluation and adjustments of overall efficiency of the operation – by being a part of the operation and not just an observer.

Renovation Experience

During the entirety of the renovation project, the Assistant Superintendent will be involved in all aspects of the renovation: Quality control of construction, turf grow-in, fertilization, mowing, irrigation audits and adjustments, mowing, and overall quality control of the project.

Qualifications

Degree / certification in turf related field or equivalent work - including golf course maintenance internships and/or previous golf course maintenance experience.

Ability to work weekends as needed & agreed upon with the Head Superintendent.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Passionate about creating a great working culture within the department.

Understanding of the rules of golf as it pertains to the daily setup of a golf course for play.

Works well with others to develop a great working culture within the department.

Proficiency in computer use and ability to use: Microsoft Office, Excel, Digital Job Board, software-based irrigation software, etc.

Possess or ability to obtain a Texas Pesticide Applicator’s license within 90 days of employment.

Must have a valid driver’s license.
