Summary Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Commercial Roofing Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of commercial roofing systems, materials, and installation techniques. They will be responsible for accurately assessing project requirements, providing cost estimates, and collaborating with project managers and clients to ensure successful project completion within budgetary constraints.
Responsibilities
Conduct thorough assessments of commercial roofing projects, including site visits, measurement analysis, and evaluation of existing conditions.
Examine blueprints and utilize industry-standard estimating software and methodologies to prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for materials, labor, safety requirements, equipment, and other project expenses.
Select appropriate roofing materials in collaboration with suppliers and vendors based on project specifications, budget constraints, and performance requirements.
Prepare comprehensive bid proposals, including detailed breakdowns of costs, project timelines, and scope of work documents.
Generate new sales and respond to client requests via phone, email, and internet inquiries; collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, and project managers to clarify project requirements and provide expert guidance throughout the estimation process.
Identify potential risks and challenges for each project and develop strategies to mitigate them effectively.
Assist in developing and managing project budgets, ensuring estimates align with financial objectives and company profitability targets. Support the Project Manager in managing job costs, change order requests, and billings.
Work closely with project managers, contractors, and field staff to ensure seamless coordination and communication throughout the project lifecycle, and provide cross‑selling opportunities to other divisions.
Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and new technologies related to commercial roofing systems and estimation techniques; implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Valid Driver’s License.
Ability to climb ladders and perform some fieldwork.
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred but not required).
Previous experience in construction estimating, particularly in roofing projects.
Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to manage time efficiently, multitask, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards related to roofing construction.
Willingness to learn and take on new challenges in a dynamic work environment.
Position Details Classification: Exempt Reports To: Senior Estimator
Work Environment Functions can take place indoors or outdoors, sometimes in high, precarious places with fumes and/or airborne particles. The environment involves loud to very loud noise levels from equipment, coworkers, and phone conversations. Work often must be performed in high or cramped workspaces and awkward positions, with hazards related to materials and equipment.
Physical Demands Physical demands are based on the ability to perform tasks over an 8–10‑hour period for a 4–7‑day work week, including lifting up to 100 pounds on occasion and up to 50 pounds regularly, bending, twisting, reaching, and maintaining balance. The role requires sustained manual labor, climbing, and other physical activities in outdoor and sometimes hazardous conditions.
Safety
Follow all Heidler Roofing LLC., OSHA, and customer safety policy and procedures.
Assist in maintaining a safe workplace.
Immediately report all unsafe conditions to a supervisor or safety manager.
