Position Objective
Under the supervision of the Arts & Events Specialist, this position is responsible for musical direction and/or directing full-length productions for the Foothills Youth Theatre. Duties include holding auditions, running rehearsals and performances, and ensuring a dependable, child-friendly work environment.

Essential Functions
Responsible for all aspects of directing full-length productions, including overall vision, auditioning, casting, rehearsal management, and coordinating staff and volunteers.
Musical Director duties: overseeing musical instruction, casting, and rehearsals.
Communicate effectively with artistic staff, contractors, volunteers, and support personnel.
Assign nonperforming students and volunteers to backstage tasks such as constructing, painting, and operating lighting and sound equipment.
Manage the production budget and clearly communicate set, prop, and costume needs to the Arts & Events Specialist.
Ensure all equipment and supplies are available, set up, taken down, and properly maintained; no purchases without supervisor approval.
Bring creativity, energy, and preparedness to every rehearsal.
Act as the primary line of communication between actors; manage conflicts among volunteers and staff, enforce safety rules, and uphold program policies.
Provide a safe learning environment, recognize emergencies, administer first aid as needed, and complete Accident/Incident reports.
Respond to public inquiries courteously, provide information, and resolve complaints efficiently.
Report facility hazards to supervisor and communicate issues promptly.
Participate in production meetings, staff meetings, training sessions, and orientations.
Maintain regular, reliable attendance; cover shifts and secure substitutes as required.

Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Drama, Theater, Fine Arts, or Performing Arts, or a minimum of two (2) years directing or assistant directing full-length productions.
Experience supervising youth is preferred.
Professional experience in other theatrical areas (lighting, sound, set, etc.) is preferred.
Licenses, Certificates & Other Requirements CPR/AED and First Aid certifications are preferred.
Material And Equipment Used Must have knowledge of stage performance and stage-directing experience, and the ability to successfully work with youth and/or adults.
Working Environment Approximately 95% of the work is performed indoors within a studio setting, with frequent interruptions and varying temperatures. Background noise and distractions are common.
Physical Requirements Must demonstrate actable techniques unique to the arts disciplines. Lifting up to 25 pounds unassisted and up to 50 pounds with assistance is required. Vision, manual dexterity, and communication skills (verbal, email, phone) are essential. Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, and bending are part of the role.
