Position Overview
The Materials Planner/Buyer is responsible for end-to-end material planning and purchasing to support a dynamic, fast‑moving OEM manufacturing environment. This role maintains accurate MRP master data, executes sourcing and negotiation for direct materials/select indirects, and aligns production schedules with demand, capacity, and inventory targets to achieve on-time delivery, cost, and quality objectives. Job Responsibilities
Plan and maintain material requirements in the ERP/MRP system; keep item master data (lead times, lot sizes, safety stock, planning parameters) accurate. Responsible for accurate forecasting of consumables and materials, both domestic and international, to support production schedules, replacement part demand, inventory targets, and supplier planning. Convert planned orders and requisitions into purchase orders; confirm, expedite, de‑expedite, and cancel orders as required to align with demand changes. Monitor inventory levels (raw, WIP, FG); set and adjust min/max and safety stock; prevent excess and obsolescence. Source, select, and manage suppliers; negotiate pricing, terms, and stocking agreements; drive cost savings and lead‑time reductions. Track supplier performance (OTD, quality, responsiveness); issue SCARs with Quality as needed and lead corrective actions. Collaborate cross‑functionally with Engineering (BOM accuracy/ECNs), Operations/Scheduling, and Finance (invoice match, PPV). Execute Kanban, min/max, or reorder‑point systems where appropriate; support Lean materials flow and line‑side delivery. Analyze demand and forecast signals; participate in S&OP/supply reviews and translate aggregate plans into executable MPS/MRP. Maintain compliance with company purchasing policies, ethics, and relevant regulations; ensure proper documentation and audit readiness. Qualifications Required
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Business, Operations, Engineering, or equivalent experience. 3–5 years of Buyer/Planner, Materials, or Production Planning experience in an OEM or discrete manufacturing environment. Hands‑on ERP/MRP experience (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Infor, Epicor, Microsoft Dynamics); advanced Excel (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivots). Experience working in Supplier portals, EDI, and quality/SCAR systems Proven supplier negotiation skills and understanding of total cost of ownership. Working knowledge of BOMs. Strong data accuracy, organization, and communication skills; ability to manage priorities in a fast‑paced setting. Preferred Qualifications
Commodity experience with textile printing equipment, as well as metals, machined parts, castings, pneumatics, electronics, and assemblies common to industrial equipment OEMs. Experience with Kanban, Lean materials, and supplier development. Experience with AI‑enabled sourcing and procurement tools to support data‑driven supplier selection, cost analysis, and risk monitoring. Familiarity with ISO 9001 and PPV/cost analysis; basic reading of engineering drawings and specifications. APICS/ASCM CPIM or CSCP certification (in progress or completed). Microsoft 365 Power Automate Key Performance Indicators
Supplier On‑Time Delivery (OTD) and Quality (PPM, defects). Purchase price variance (PPV) and cost savings realized. Accuracy of master data (lead times, lot sizes, safety stock) and inventory record accuracy.
