Do you want to help us build the DNA of tech? We are currently looking for a Director R&D Foundry Transfer Process Engineering – Worldwide MOSFETs to join our growing team. This position is based in San Jose, California and may be remote. Flexible / Global (with international travel as required).
As Director, R&D Transfer Process Engineering you will lead the transfer of semiconductor technologies from internal R&D into external foundry partners. This role is accountable for ensuring process technologies are portable, scalable, and manufacturable across foundries while meeting quality, reliability, cost, and schedule commitments.
You will lead a team responsible for foundry readiness, technology qualification, and sustained yield ramp, acting as the technical bridge between internal development teams and external manufacturing partners.
What You Will Be Doing
Foundry Transfer & Enablement
- Lead end-to-end transfer of R&D process technologies to external foundries from feasibility through volume production.
- Define foundry transfer frameworks, readiness criteria, and qualification gates (EVT/DVT/PVT or equivalent).
- Ensure process portability, robustness, and compliance with foundry design rules and manufacturing constraints.
External Partner Management
- Serve as the senior technical interface with foundry process, integration, and yield teams.
- Drive alignment on process specifications, change control, control plans, SPC, and excursion management.
- Lead joint technical reviews, risk assessments, and issue resolution with foundry partners.
Internal Cross-Functional Leadership
- Partner with R&D, Product Engineering, Quality, Reliability, Supply Chain, and Legal/Contracts teams.
- Ensure IP protection, documentation completeness, and controlled knowledge transfer.
- Align internal roadmaps with foundry capabilities, timelines, and capacity planning.
Quality, Yield & Risk Management
- Own foundry qualification plans, including process capability, yield learning, and reliability validation.
- Lead root cause analysis for yield or reliability gaps across internal and foundry teams.
- Drive corrective actions and continuous improvement with clear ownership and closure.
Team & Organizational Leadership
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of foundry transfer and enablement engineers.
- Establish clear operating rhythms, performance metrics, and escalation paths.
- Foster a culture of technical rigor, partnership, and accountability.
Program & Business Execution
- Manage multi-foundry transfer programs with competing priorities and timelines.
- Balance speed-to-market with quality, cost, and long-term supply resilience.
- Provide executive-level communication on foundry readiness, risks, and mitigation strategies.
What Will You Bring Along
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
- 10+ years of semiconductor process engineering experience with strong R&D-to-manufacturing exposure.
- 5+ years of people leadership experience.
- Direct experience transferring technologies to external foundries.
- Strong understanding of foundry process integration, SPC, DOE, FMEA, yield analysis, and change control.
- Proven ability to work across cultures, time zones, and company boundaries.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing multi-foundry strategies (dual-source, second-source enablement).
- Familiarity with foundry NDAs, IP protection, and technology licensing considerations.
- Background in power semiconductors, analog/mixed-signal, or specialty technologies (as applicable).
- Experience with customer or automotive qualification flows (e.g., AEC‑Q100).
Pay Range
180k-225k (San Jose Based)
