The Ads Measurement Science team within the Measurement, Ad Tech, and Data Science (MADS) group at Amazon Ads plays a vital role in crafting innovative solutions for various performance measurement products. Our mission is to provide comprehensive insights into the effectiveness of advertisers' ad investments, assessing sales impacts both online and offline over different timescales, and delivering actionable recommendations to help our advertisers optimize their media strategies.
Additionally, we are driving advancements in AI tools that simplify customer workflows through automation, including custom query and report generation by leveraging natural language processing. To achieve these goals, we utilize a diverse array of scientific technologies, including Generative AI, classical machine learning, causal inference, natural language processing, and computer vision.
As an Applied Scientist on our team, you will take the lead in developing measurement solutions from inception to deployment. Your role will include proposing, designing, analyzing, and implementing models that yield fresh measurement insights for our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize your expertise in scientific disciplines to create innovative solutions for complex ads measurement challenges.
- Clarify ambiguous problems by establishing clear evaluation frameworks and success criteria.
- Independently produce high-quality technical documentation.
- Contribute significantly to critical-path code implementations and collaborate with engineers to bring solutions into production.
- Work collaboratively with other scientists on extensive, multifaceted technical projects.
- Present and disseminate your work to the wider scientific community through conferences and meetings.
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Propose new ideas that will shape the future direction of the team's initiatives.
- Mentor junior scientists and engage in the hiring processes.
About the Team:
Our team consists of scientists from various disciplines including Applied Science, Research, Data Science, and Economics. You will collaborate with colleagues who possess deep knowledge in machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, Generative AI, and causal inference. Together, we partner with skilled engineers, product managers, sales leaders, and other experts in the advertising sector to create scalable modeling and software solutions.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of experience building models for business applications.
- PhD or Master's degree with 4+ years of experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or similar.
- Experience in developing machine learning models or algorithms for business applications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as MxNet and TensorFlow.
- Background in professional software development.
- Experience in creating speech recognition, machine translation, and natural language processing systems.
- Knowledge of designing experiments and performing statistical analyses on results.
- Experience with cutting-edge deep learning model architectures, training, optimization, and model pruning.
- History of patents or publications in top-tier peer-reviewed journals or conferences.

The base salary range for this position is $172,400.00 - $223,400.00 annually. Your total Amazon package will also include sign-on bonuses and restricted stock units (RSUs). Compensation will be determined based on factors like experience, qualifications, and location.
