Summary:
OCTO is seeking a Senior Oracle Database Administrator to manage and maintain the central Oracle environment for the District of Columbia. The role requires 10 years of experience with Oracle 12c or higher, extensive knowledge of database architecture, backup and restore strategies, performance tuning, and experience in a highly available environment.
Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and implement projects to support the District’s growing information demands.
Ensure effective use of District resources.
Contribute to policies for effective process planning related to new requirements.
Participate in short‑term tactical planning implementation.
Contribute to long‑term strategic planning.
Perform backup and restore, troubleshoot connectivity, and execute failovers as planned or in response to unplanned events.
Maintain and optimize databases, reviewing memory, I/O, indexing, queries, access, tablespace, and schemas.
Conduct capacity planning, incident response, and root‑cause analysis in collaboration with developers, architects, and security teams.
Key Skills and Experience
10 years of expertise in Oracle database architecture and Oracle 12c or higher.
10 years of expertise in Oracle RMAN backup and recovery strategies.
10 years of expertise in tuning Oracle databases (query, indexes, memory, I/O, storage).
10 years of experience with Oracle RAC and highly available environments.
10 years of expertise in Oracle database failovers, upgrading, and troubleshooting.
10 years of experience writing complex SQL, functions, triggers, and objects.
Knowledge of operating Oracle databases in cloud environments such as Azure and AWS (5 years desirable).
Familiarity with automation and DevOps for databases (5 years desirable).
11–15 years of database design, documentation, and coding experience.
11–15 years of experience designing and implementing reports and report interfaces.
11–15 years of SQL experience.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field or equivalent experience.
Oracle Certified Professional or higher.
Current work authorization in the United States.
