Job Description
Mountain Home Public Schools is accepting applications for a Director of Special Education for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a 240‑day contract with a salary schedule of B-2.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree required
Five years experience as a special education teacher required
Effective instructional leadership skills and experience
Must meet AR licensure requirements
LEA Supervisor Licensure required
Job Responsibilities
Provide leadership, direction and supervision in assigned aspects of the District Special Education Program.
Plan with principals, teachers, and administrative staff to develop and implement a program designed to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
Be thoroughly familiar with the provisions of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and state regulations, including all proposals for revision.
Assist with the preparation of all reports, proposals and plans required by the Special Education Unit.
Assist with the organization and implementation of the District’s Special Education Professional Development Program.
Participate in the selection and placement of special education personnel.
Coordinate the development of all Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students receiving special education services.
Maintain information on and liaison with other public and private agencies and individuals who provide services to students with disabilities in the district, particularly those ages 14 and above to provide vocational preparation.
Provide ongoing consultative assistance, in conjunction with assigned special education personnel, to regular education teachers serving students with disabilities.
Assist in the monitoring of the operation of district programs for children with disabilities to ensure operation in accordance with state and district adopted and approved policies, procedures and guidelines.
Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
Maintain emotional control under stress.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
Remain current on instructional practices in Special Education.
Perform other duties as assigned.
