
Director, Policy Operations

POSITION OBJECTIVE
Lead the Policy Operations team while providing high level strategic and administrative support to the Vice President, Public Policy and Economic Analysis. Ensuring seamless execution of initiatives and written communications from the Public Policy Department to Congress, the Executive Branch, regulatory agencies and state Farm Bureaus.
REPORTS TO Vice President, Public Policy and Economic Analysis
LOCATION Washington, DC; Eligible to earn 2 telework days/week
SALARY $90,000 - $120,000 annually
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead day-to-day operations of the Policy Operations Team, including planning and facilitating state Farm Bureau legislative events, industry stakeholders and government official meetings, conferences, and award and recognition programs for the Public Policy Department.
Provide administrative support to VP, Public Policy by managing schedules, coordinating communications, organizing meetings, and handling confidential information.
Coordinate the preparation, review and clearance of all official testimony, regulatory comments, letters, state Farm Bureau and Public Policy communications.
Partner with Public Policy leadership and staff to organize weekly strategic planning meetings and prepare recurring communications to state Farm Bureau leadership and staff.
Serve as the primary point of contact for legislative and regulatory requests from AFBF, state Farm Bureaus and external organizations.
Supervise the Policy Operations staff, including hiring, performance management and professional development.
Manage the department’s expense review and approval process and support budget tracking and reporting as requested by the VP, Public Policy.
Prepare AFBF Lobbying Disclosure Report and partner with the Office of General Counsel to ensure regulatory and compliance requirements are met.
Identify and implement process improvements to increase departmental productivity, reduce costs and streamline workflows.
RELATIONSHIPS Communicate and coordinate with all AFBF staff, state Farm Bureau staff and Farm Bureau leaders on matters and developments affecting the Public Policy Department, at the discretion of, and with the advice of the Vice President, Public Policy and Economic Analysis.
EDUCATION OR TRAINING REQUIRED
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Five (5) or more years of experience in an executive support, administrative services or operations environment, including three or more years in a supervisory role
Strong attention to detail with an emphasis on organizational, time management and written communication skills
Experience managing processes and organizing workflow for others
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office and email delivery software such as MailChimp
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/SKILLS ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Occasional travel and work outside of standard business hours
