About the Role At Hinge, we’re building a dating app that’s designed to be deleted. Creating an environment where people feel safe, respected, and empowered is foundational to that mission. Our Trust & Safety team plays a critical role in protecting our community and designing systems that foster genuine connection.

We’re looking for a Director of Product Design to lead design across the Trust & Safety domain. This is a senior people leadership role responsible for elevating craft, shaping strategy, and building strong cross‑functional partnerships in one of the most important areas of our product.

Responsibilities

Design Leadership and Execution : Lead design across Trust & Safety, setting direction for how safety and trusted connection show up throughout the Hinge experience. Guide your team in turning ambiguous problem spaces and strategic priorities into thoughtful user journeys and high‑quality product experiences. Stay close to the work to ensure clarity, cohesion, and strong execution from concept through launch.

Craft and Systems Thinking : Maintain a high bar for visual, interaction, and systems thinking across squads. Ensure safety experiences feel intuitive, human, and cohesive. Partner with Design Systems and Content Design to evolve scalable patterns that support complex, emotionally nuanced moments.

Mentorship and Influence : Manage and develop a team of four designers across three squads, including product and content design. Provide clear direction, meaningful feedback, and growth pathways. Lead critiques that elevate quality, model strong collaboration, and foster a culture of curiosity, experimentation, and healthy debate.

Strategic Collaboration and Impact : Partner closely with senior leaders across Product, Engineering, Research, Data Science, Operations, and Policy to shape vision and align priorities. Influence roadmap decisions, bring design into strategic conversations early, and ensure Trust & Safety teams experience Design as a true thought partner.

Innovation and Forward Thinking : Champion design‑led innovation in one of the most emotionally complex areas of our product. Encourage experimentation and forward‑looking solutions that strengthen user trust while supporting business and operational realities.

What We’re Looking For

5+ years of experience managing product designers, including senior‑level talent

Previously operated as a Lead‑level IC before moving into management

Proven track record of developing designers and building high‑performing teams

Strong design instincts and the ability to recognize and elevate quality work

Experienced in driving work from ambiguous problem space to shipped product

Skilled at building strategic partnerships with senior Product and Engineering leaders

Clear, compelling communicator who can create energy around complex domains

Bonus Experience

Experience designing for Trust & Safety, community health, marketplace integrity, identity, or privacy.

Familiarity with experimentation, behavioral frameworks, or machine learning signals used to detect or prevent harmful interactions.

Content design management experience is a plus, but not required.

Salary Range $235,000.00 - $287,000.00 per year salary

Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job‑related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York City. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
