What You’ll Do A typical day might begin by reviewing outlines for upcoming articles and getting familiar with the topic you’ll be writing about. From there, you dive into research—exploring films, interviews, industry resources, and related articles to build a strong understanding of the subject.

Once the research takes shape, you begin drafting the article—developing examples, structuring sections, and refining the narrative so the ideas are clear and engaging. Along the way, you may add supporting visuals such as embedded videos, diagrams, or concepts for infographics that help explain the ideas more clearly.

When the draft is ready, you send it to the editor for review. Sometimes feedback leads to revisions and refinements; other times the piece is ready to move forward and you shift your focus to the next article.

Some days are spent deep in research, others in writing and refining ideas. The goal is always the same: create thoughtful articles that help filmmakers better understand the craft.

A Typical Day A typical day might start by reviewing notes or feedback on a draft you’ve been developing. From there, you may spend time researching a filmmaking concept, outlining a new article, or refining a section of a piece to make the ideas clearer and more engaging.

Much of the day is spent writing—developing examples, analyzing scenes, or explaining creative techniques in a way that helps readers understand how filmmakers think and work.

At times you might collaborate with editors to refine an article’s structure, adjust headlines, or polish sections for clarity. You may also review how published articles are performing and identify opportunities to expand or improve them.
