
Technical Publications Specialist

Overview
Signalink is seeking a Technical Publications Specialist to support the development of U.S. Army technical publications. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong experience in XML tagging and structured authoring environments who will work in tandem with senior technical writers and subject matter experts to produce compliant, high-quality technical documentation. The selected candidate will focus on structuring, tagging, and formatting content to meet military specifications and data standards.
Responsibilities and Duties
Perform XML tagging and structured authoring of technical content in accordance with applicable standards (e.g., S1000D or similar schema-based frameworks).
Support the development of Technical Manuals (TMs), Operator and Maintenance work packages, and Modification Work Orders (MWOs) by formatting and structuring content provided by senior technical writers.
Apply and maintain familiarity with military and logistics standards, including MIL-HDBK-1222, MIL-PRF-63002, and MIL-STD-40051, ensuring all documentation is compliant.
Collaborate closely with senior technical writers, engineers, and logistics personnel to ensure accuracy, consistency, and proper data structuring of documentation.
Format text, tables, figures, and procedural steps within XML-based authoring tools to ensure usability and compliance with government requirements.
Assist with document updates, revisions, and change incorporation, including redlines and customer feedback.
Support document quality assurance efforts by conducting detailed reviews for formatting, tagging accuracy, and adherence to style and data standards.
Maintain version control and proper file management in accordance with company and customer systems.
Track progress on assigned deliverables and communicate status to project leads.
Requirements and Qualifications
Minimum of 3+ years of experience in XML tagging, structured authoring, or technical publications support within a DoD or regulated environment.
Hands‑on experience with XML-based authoring tools (e.g., ArborText, Oxygen XML Editor, or similar).
Familiarity with structured documentation standards such as S1000D or equivalent.
Experience supporting development of DoD technical publications (e.g., TMs, MWOs, or similar deliverables).
Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow complex formatting and data structuring requirements.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment supporting senior writers and SMEs.
Active Secret clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain one.
Willingness to travel up to 10% as required.
Preferred Experience and Knowledge
Experience supporting DoD programs.
Familiarity with ArborText, Adobe FrameMaker, or Adobe Illustrator.
Understanding of technical publication workflows, including validation and verification (V&V) support.
Exposure to configuration management systems and document control processes.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Information Systems, or a related field.
