
Senior Technical Writer

Overview
Signalink is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to support the development of U.S. Army technical publications. The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional capable of independently developing Technical Manuals (TMs) from the ground up, interpreting complex engineering data, and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, compliant technical documentation in support of aviation systems.
Responsibilities and Duties
Develop, author, and maintain U.S. Army Technical Manuals (TMs), including Operator and Maintenance work packages, and Modification Work Orders (MWOs), in compliance with applicable military standards.
Perform advanced XML tagging and structured authoring (e.g., S1000D or equivalent schema-based environments) to produce deliverables that meet government and program requirements.
Interpret and translate engineering drawings, wiring schematics, and system specifications into clear, accurate, and user-focused technical documentation.
Lead document development efforts from initial concept through final delivery, including content creation, formatting, and quality assurance.
Participate in and support Validation and Verification (V&V) events, incorporating real-time updates, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring technical accuracy.
Collaborate closely with engineering, logistics, and airframe/system subject matter experts to ensure completeness, accuracy, and usability of documentation.
Apply and maintain proficiency in applicable logistics and publication standards, including but not limited to MIL-HDBK-1222, MIL-PRF-63002, and MIL-STD-40051.
Conduct thorough peer reviews and provide technical editing to ensure consistency, compliance, and clarity across deliverables.
Track and report progress on assigned tasks, ensuring documentation is properly version-controlled and maintained in accordance with company and customer requirements.
Requirements and Qualifications
Minimum of 5+ years of experience developing DoD technical publications, with a strong emphasis on U.S. Army TMs and MWOs.
Demonstrated expertise in XML tagging and structured authoring environments (e.g., ArborText, S1000D, or similar tools).
Proven ability to develop technical documentation from scratch, including organizing content, defining structure, and producing final deliverables.
Experience supporting or participating in Validation and Verification (V&V) events.
Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
Experience working in a DoD contractor or government environment, preferably supporting aviation programs.
Active Secret clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain one.
Willingness to travel up to 10% as required.
Preferred Experience and Knowledge
Experience supporting U.S. Army aviation platforms (e.g., rotary-wing systems such as UH-60, AH-64, CH-47).
Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, or a related field.
Familiarity with ArborText, Adobe Illustrator, and other technical publishing tools.
Hands‑on experience with aircraft maintenance, modification, or installation activities.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment.
