Epitec is seeking an experienced Designer to join our client in the Consumer Appliance industry. As a Designer, the candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting a fast-paced prototype shop environment, transforming CAD data and design concepts into high-quality physical models.
This is an ongoing W2 contract
This is an onsite position in Benton Harbor, MI
Key Responsibilities:
Build high-quality prototypes and models from CAD data, drawings, and design specifications using wood, metal, plastics, foams, and rapid prototyping methods
Produce small- and large-scale models with proper fit, function, finish, durability, and shipping readiness
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot model shop equipment, including CNC machines, laser cutters, 3D printers, mills, and lathes
Perform precision CNC machining on plastics, foams, acrylics, and similar materials
Assemble and finish prototypes using fabrication, fastening, sanding, painting, and detailing techniquesCollaborate with designers, engineers, and shop staff to translate concepts into physical models
Inspect and test prototypes to ensure quality, accuracy, and functionality
Manage materials inventory, shop organization, and routine equipment maintenance
Work safely while managing multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines
Required Qualifications:
2+ years of experience in a fast-paced prototype or model shop environment
Proficiency with CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, and/or Rhino (CAM experience preferred)
Hands-on experience with CNC machining, 3D printing, and fabrication tools
Strong understanding of industrial design principles and model-making practices
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and CAD data
Strong organizational and multitasking skills
